L. ovary removed, R. giving me PAINS!
In Dec. 03 I had emergency surgery to remove a large cyst from L. ovary. I've had 2 normal periods since and then the last 2 I have extreme pain at the begining of the period. Then for several days after my abdomen is so tender I can't touch it. Over the telephone the DR. said it was probably a cyst that ruptured. The Ct scan that I had in Dec. said I had 2-3 small cyst on the R. ovary. I have an appt. to discuss this with the DR. next week but I was wondering if any one has had this problem. The pain is severe for approx. 30-60 mins. and then it becomes tolerable with tylenol. I don't have heavy bleeding just a normal period.
Thanks.

Gosh, I can't believe you have to wait that long! Did you tell the office people you are in such pain? Sometimes you have to push those people or you will get ignored. Didn't they remove the right cysts when they were in there to remove the left? I had my left ovary and large cyst removed last Sept, he burned off 2 cysts on the right. 7 weeks later, I was all sick agian, and it was another cyst growing already on the right, he tried me on BCP for 3 months to shrink it but it still grew and another one appeared again, so now it is a TAH and right ovary removal.

L. ovary removed, R. giving me PAINS!
ps, you may want to call and ask your Dr, but mine said that 800 mg of Ibuprophen 4 times a day is the best way to control ovary pain. It worked allright for me for a while, but I also have GI problems, IBS and it really flared that mess up after awhile. Incidentally one night (After my ultra sound) it was hurting really bad in the middle of the night, and I had left pain med from my surgery, so I was desperate and tried it, but even percocet didn't help.
Also, don't be afraid to really emphasize to the scheduler that you need to get in sooner because you are hurting, they can squeeze you in. My Dr's office staff is really understanding that way.

Dear Puppet,
Thanks for the reply. The ibuprofen idea is good but I have recently had to stop taking it due to G.I. upset. I too have some percocet left over from the surgery in Dec. If it gets too bad I will try them but right now the tylenol works o.k. The Dr. office was helpful about getting me in sooner with one of the other docs. but I chose to wait until my own dr. returned. Last month I went thru the same thing with the pain. I made the appt. to see the dr. so I can find out what can be done about it. I hate to hear that B.C. pills didn't work for you because I was hoping that was all that I would need! I want to wish you luck on your up coming surgery. This site is just so great to get info and support!!!
Thanks
Toni

L. ovary removed, R. giving me PAINS!
DId you have the left ovary removed or just the cust that was on it?
I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago because I had fibroids that were causing heavy and lengthy bleeding. My uterus and cervix were removed, I kept both ovaries. I was 41 when I had the surgery and wanted to avoid menopause as long as I could - other than some cysts my ovaries were basically healthy and still functioning.
I have always had cysts on my ovaries. Most of them rupture and go away on thier own but new ones develop. When they are in the process of rupturing I have significant pain for several hours and mild pain for a couple days. Tylenol helps me with the pain.
Recently I have had increased pain in my right ovary area. I have had several vaginal ultrasounds which indicate I have more cysts on the ovary and it also appears to have adhered itself to the vaginal cuff area. I will be having another vaginal ultrasound in 6 weeks to see if anything has changed. If I am still in pain I will have do decide if I have more surgery or not.
Most ladies who post at HysterSisters have had or are considering a hysterectomy. Your situation is a bit different. It sounds like only your ovaries are causing problems for you.
When you see your doctor next week be sure to thoroughly discuss what all of your options might be. The overall condition of your ovaries will matter, your family history needs to be considered, and your age - are you near or at menopause. If you are not in menopause removing both ovaries would put you there.
I hope you find some relief. Take care.
