Re: Adenomyosis, Panic Attacks, Misserable!!

You're not alone, its crazy how severe adenomyosis can get, I think I have one of the worst it can get. I just had a laparoscopy for a fallopian tube removal and they found probable adenomyosis. The anxiety, hip and pelvic pain, and major fatigue started about 7 years ago and have progressively been getting worse from there. They thought I had fibromyalgia. This year though, major vomiting migraines started (Daily for 3 months ugh), panic attacks so bad I thought I had ptsd and racing thoughts a lot and I thought I was literally going crazy crying all night for nights. I lost a lot of hair!!!! I just kept begging my doctor to try diagnosing me with something other than fibro because I didn't think I had it.. I used to get heavy bleeding but I do not any more, always had normal paps. I have terrible nerve pain going down my legs and lower back and they said it is Degenerative disk disease. so anyway, she sent me to a gyno they felt a swelling and then ultrasound found blocked tube. For about a year now I have been practically bed ridden, I cannot lift, walk bull legged, sit, stand for a small time, also such a lack of focus I cannot take care of personal business stuff. So I'm 43 got at least 7 years before menopause so I'm getting a hysterectomy because I want my life back. I do gotta say though, my energy, focus, and anxiety are a little better since they removed the tube.

I have a high pain tolerance and can handle the pain and gastro issues with the adenomyosis but for a year now I have been having panic attacks during the time for my period and ovulation. I just feel like there has to be a connection between the gyn issues and the anxiety issues. I have been on Lexapro to help and also have Xanax for when and attack happens but they still get old. I am only 30 and have 3 kids and just feel like I am missing out on so much in my life from always not feeling well. Wondering if anyone else had panic/anxiety that went away or at least got better after hysterectomy. Note this is not panic/worry over possible surgery it has been going on for a year and is more related to symptoms. Any advice or help would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!
Wow! Thanks for the post. I've been on birth control for waaaay more years than I'd like to admit to control the bleeding and pain from fibroids. No one else I talked to has mentioned this, nor have I seen it posted by anyone else on this site. I believe my pain tollerance is also very high and consequently I was told over 8 years ago I was headed for a hysterectomy. I, however, asked to wait it out hoping menopause would hit first. Oh boy was I wrong. Long story short the last year plus was filled with nothing but extremely heavy periods which culminated in the birth control no longer working and nothing could stop the bleeding. I ended up anemic and believe me that is no fun! On top of everything else it just exacerbates the exhaustion!

What I later learned was one of my fibroids was very near the cervix and submucsal. This meant I was fighting a losing battle from the beginning! Then, after the hysterectomy not only did we confirm I was full of fibroids, but I also found out I had endometriosis and ovarian cysts (sure glad I opted to have those removed as well).

So, don't be surprised if you find other diagnosis after surgery. I guess I just hadn't even considered that possibility.

I had not considered my anxiety issues to be related to all this other stuff. Like you I take Lexapro. Although I don't know about the two issues being connected, what I have noticed and commented to others about, is my much lower heart rate. For the last year or so I was very concerned because even resting the lowest I could get my HR was in the 80's. 90's to 110 was normal throughout the day. Post surgery I'm down to 60's to 70's. Although resting right now is 89 (I have started HRT - possibly the estrogen?). Odd to me, but maybe it will mean something to you.

Best of luck. I will be interested to follow this thread! Thanks again for posting!

Re: Adenomyosis, Panic Attacks, Misserable!!

hi,

I had adenomyosis but no panic attacks or anxiety prior to my TLH & BSO.
I was fine for over a year but have struggled since the end of last year. I have been on HRT since 48 hours post op.
I developed panic attacks a month ago and was put onto EffexorXR just over three weeks ago.

The only thing that having a hysterectomy will guarantee is that your bleeding will stop. There is unfortunately no way of knowing in advance how you will feel emotionally and mentally in the months and years following your surgery.

Re: Adenomyosis, Panic Attacks, Misserable!!

EVE555 thanks for your reply. I am sorry you are so miserable but I am glad I am not the only one with anxiety issues along with all the other issues! Since I originally posted this I have met with my doctor again and have decided to go ahead with hysterectomy on Sept. 30 - hoping and praying the anxiety gets better once the recovery from surgery is over. I already feel a little better and KNOW I am making the right decision by moving forward with surgery I am only 30 and cant wait for menopause for my symptoms to get better. Thanks to everyone for your advice and support and sharing your situations. Glad I found this website!!
