Re: LAVH on April 13th...what to bring to the hopital?

I had a LAVH/BSO on April 1st. I brought a small purse with chapstick, iPhone, iPhone charger, and ear phones to listen to music. I brought only loose clothes that I wore to castle and wore the same clothes home. I'm 37 and a stuffed animal freak! So my favorite stuffed animal came with me to the castle, rode the gurney to the or and was given to me when I woke up. I thought I was being childish but as a matter of a fact I was told several women bring a little comfort piece with them.... Good luck ladies! I know that there are worries and everyones situations are different.... But I really anticipated horror.... In reality it is tolerable.... Not easy but tolerable atleast for me and obviously i'm a big kid at heart!

Re: LAVH on April 13th...what to bring to the hopital?

I had a bag packed w/ all kinds of stuff I never got to use. The hospital even provided stretchy boy-short underwear that would have been good even if I had had abdominal incision. (had lap hys BSO TVT ETC) They provided pads, gown, robe, socks etc. I did brush my teeth, brushed my hair, urinated thanks to 19 small containers of cranberry juice and got out of there w/i 24 hrs.
THE ONLY THING I wish I had had was ear plugs for my advocate/sister and myself. I thought I was hallucinating about a water drip echoing in the room- later realized it was driving my sister nuts too...and it was the IV drip. DON'T wait to walk or for staff to help you walk- call them and walk through out the night. Make sure there is no KINK in your catheter and DRINK DRINK DRINK!

Re: LAVH on April 13th...what to bring to the hopital?

I would recommend throat lozenges and a belly pouch. I REALLY needed the throat lozenges because they intubate you for the surgery and I had a very sore throat when I woke up. Lucky for me someone had recommended it before I went to the castle. The belly pouch was also recommended and it was great since I attached it to the side of the bed and it had all the little things - Blackberry, lozenges, chapstick, pocket kleenex, Gas-X, notepad and pen to write down questions for the Doctor.

BEST WISHES!!
Linda
