Have some questions

Hello ladies! I was hoping some of you out there might be able to help me. To give you a little info about myself I'm 26 years old and have many problems like endometriosis, severe pelvic pain, fertility problems, and things of that nature. I have tried treatments with pills and 3 surgeries which may help one problem but always causes another. My doctors wanted to give me a hyster long ago but I said no. Well lately the pain has gotten so intense that I just can't deal with it not to mention no energy and tired all the time. I have to go in this week to finally seriously discuss a hyster and set up a surgery date. I have done a lot of research on this subject and info says that many women suffer sexual dysfunction after this surgery- have any of you had this problem? Also does anyone know much about a procedure called a "supracervical laproscopic hysterectomy?" How about your emotional state, how has that been? I know I ask a lot of questions but this is a serious decision that I want to be informed about. If anyone can answer any of my questions I would truly appreciate it.

Have some questions

Just wanted to suggest using search icon at the top and search by keywords "supracervical" and "orgasm"...this will give you some posts to read about both topics while waiting for others to respond.

I had tah/bso March 2000...and so can't answer your question about supracervical hyst.

PS - My emotional state is wonderful. Haven't felt this good in years

Have some questions

I think many of us suffer some short-term emotional upheaval after this surgery, which is not surprising, all things considered. My observation after being on these boards for some months is that for most ladies this settles down pretty quickly. A key factor is hormone levels. If you have your ovaries removed, then you may have some problems until you are able to get proper HRT established. But don't despair - lots of us have few or no problems in this regard.

In terms of sexual function, I am glad to report that everything is fully functional - my levels of desire & satisfaction are both back to where they were before the symptoms which led to my hyst. became problematic.

I too must agree that I feel spectacular 5 weeks postop. At about 2-3 weeks postop I felt the libido return with a vengeance (and I had both ovaries removed!). I talked with many women who had a hysterectomy and to a person they felt wonderful with little or no problems emotionally or sexually. If you keep your ovaries, you should have very few problems if any. If you have them removed you may experience some symptoms of surgical menopause especially given your young age. You may find yourself trying several different forms of HRT before you hit on the right one. There's also an HRT called estratest that contains a small amount of testosterone if your libido needs a boost. I'm on a patch of estrogen only and have not needed it myself but it's nice to know it is available.

Good luck. I understand your concerns and would encourage you to do alot of research and talk with women around you who have had a hysterectomy. I found that especially helpful. My 80 year old aunt called me who had a hysterectomy at age 32 and she crowed about her sex life after the surgery!

Take care,

Thanks for that information. I have to admit to feeling a lot of apprehension about the sex life after. I'm having a total hyster. Not sure yet what else he's doing. I'll talk to him about that more next week.

I appreciate the input!
