My surgery postponed

I am so sorry that this has happened. Even though the doctors have tight schedules, they sometimes need to stop and realize that the patients also have schedules and plans to take extended time off for surgery. My surgery was also postponed and when you go through all of the prep (emotionally and physically), it is hard to come to terms with sometimes. My thoughts and prayers are with you, may the 13th come quickly - mine is on the 10th, so we're waiting together.
Hang in there!

My surgery postponed

I am so sorry for you! I know a little how you feel as my surgery was postponed the day before (I was originally scheduled for May 17) I can't imagine having gone through that awful bowel prep and then waiting around all day in the hospital on top of it! In my case it worked out for the better since my DD is out of school and can help me out a bit around the house and it really is a better time to be off of work. But I work for my brother-in-law. How do you even go about arranging that if you don 't have a sympathetic boss? I really don't think they (the doctors, hospital staff, etc..) know what a huge deal this is to schedule.

For whatever it is worth, just know that the actual surgery isn't so bad. I've been home for just one day now and here I am typing this out! My DD made me a hamburger for dinner, my DH and MIL are out right now getting some stool softener and pudding for me, and I had some very satisfying "passing of the gas"!

Good Luck to you--I am sure it will work out for the best.

My surgery postponed

Prayer's are with you honey. You just lived out my worst nightmare.
I almost had a proceedure cancelled because a nurse went "wiggy" when I told her I had a piece of hard candy because I was getting weak and dizzy. Signs sugar level is dropping. Well my procedure was scheduled for 2 or 3pm. If the person scheduled for 6am. can't eat after midnight, (6 hour fast) and the person scheduled for 2pm. can't have anything after midnight,(14 hour fast) why can a nurse go "wiggy" and start cancelling the proceedure. Personally, instead of going "wiggy" on me and the staff, playing 20 questions about "A" piece of candy, that the anathesiologist(sp?) would ask anyway just mention it to the anastheologigt(sp?) It's his call to make. He laughed and told me it's fine, esp. since I had it at 11am. He basically told me that I know what my needs and how to take care of it.

Back to you, we are not to mention Dr.s or "castle" names here so we won't. I'm heated up enough for you because I had to go thru the all day bowel prep for an upper & lower GI. My hinny was raw!!! And then you had to wait all day (assuming your backside was raw too!). I don't take to this stuff lightly. IF IT WERE ME!!! I WOULD WRITE J.A.C.H.C.O!!! I understand emergencies happen. But not all day unless there is a power outage, etc. where the hospital cancels elective surgeries and only does emergancy (life or death)with the back up generator. And does the hospital staff what stage your cancer is. If they wanted to get staff they could.
