I am pre-op and petrified!! Help!
It is a "HUGE" deal, and it seems the only people that understand that are here! My family keeps saying "you'll be fine, don't worry". I am confident that physically I will make it thru, it's the emotional stuff and potential problems that worry me. Best of Luck to You!! Thanks again for your support.

I am pre-op and petrified!! Help!
Hey Sue you are right, it is a big thing. But a big thing, for the better! I was a maniac getting things done around my house prior to the surgery. I worked a half-day prior to the surgery just to keep my mind busy.
I actually enjoyed my 6 weeks that I had off. I watched tv, visited with people, read, slept and did nothing! Yeah there were times when I was bored but I wasn't being a dental hygienist for six whole weeks. I looked at the positive of my recovery and how much better I was going to feel. NO MORE PERIODS, PAIN and CRAMPS! It was so worth it.
This website rocks! Everyone is great. I just wish I knew about it prior to my surgery. I found out through one of my patients after I went back to work.
Take care.

I am pre-op and petrified!! Help!
Candles you came to the right site. You will find all the information you need right for pre-op, post-op and all the questions you have in between. I never even chatted on-line before until I got here. My husband also told me to stop stressing and just do it. I was freaked out as well. The waiting is by far the worst. I am 3 days post-op from my LSH now and I am thrilled. I went into surgery on my period and woke up with no period at all. Woo hoo!! Now my DH is waiting on me hand and foot and i love it. It does get boring following the rules but I have all of you to talk to which helps to pass the time. I take frequent naps b/c the pain medication knocks me out but overall I feel great. I am off for the next 4 weeks and so happy to be pain free. Although I am recovering from major surgery, I already feel better than when I first went in for the surgery. You will feel the same soon yourself. I look forward to chatting with you more often and glad to finally be on the otherside. I was a cleaning maniac before my surgery too. I worked almost the entire the day before b/c my mind was much too busy to be at home. The day I actually went in for my surgery I was ready with a big smile on my face b/c I knew all of these awful problems I have been dealing with for years was finally going away. Ok, DH says I have to move from the recliner to bed now. I look forward to chatting with you more. Talk to you soon.

I am pre-op and petrified!! Help!
Hi, Candles. I remember being where you are. I had no clue I'd have to have a hysterectomy in March, when I had a pap w/severe dysplasia. Then I had colposcopy in April, then LEEP in May and all of a sudden the OB is saying you need a hysterectomy and you need it NOW. I was in shock and freaking out. I'd never had surgery w/general anesthesia in my life. And since I had no symptoms going in (I laugh when people ask, 'don't you feel better?' and I say, 'no, i was feeling fine prior to surgery thank you very much')..... it was hard.
All I can offer is that you are not alone. Keep busy. Arm yourself with knowledge because it can relieve fear. I read every book I could find on hysterectomy. I learned about my CIN/CIS. I found this website and found tremendous knowledge and support. When I asked questions I already had some ideas re: possible answers, and when procedures were explained to me, I felt confident because I had done my homework. I also busied myself 'getting ready' both w/other people in my life and the messy house where I live. It's still messy, but I stocked up on tons of stuff, etc.
I hope this helps. You are not alone. And yes, I am not going to lie and say post op is a breeze. It depends on age, on what you had removed, on how you felt prior, on how fast you heal after, etc. Everyone of us, i keep writing, is like a snowflake....all very individual. Remember this site is here for comfort. The women who founded it are angels.
Take care. Best of luck as you 'wait' until Oct. and then convalesce after. I will be 7 weeks post op Monday and I have a LONG LONG way to go even though I am back at work f.t. I will not lie and say it's easy. However, I'm still here! And I had a clean path report, which was better than 'feeling good' while cervical cancer grew in my body. I tell myself I'm lucky I had a fine OB and had the surgery done. My body will heal. It will take time. You will heal, too............hugs and hugs and more hugs to you.
E.

Getting hit with bad case of nerves
Totally agree, waiting worst part. I have known and had this scheduled for over 2 months. Luckily, I had a wedding in the family and that really helped me not focus on my surgery. The wedding was beautiful, and fun. Last Sunday on my way home (it was out of town), my anxiety started.
My biggest fear? Not being able to bend over. Mind you, I am not Ms Physically Fit, but I bend a lot! Sitting to stand position, getting dressed/ putting on pants, picking up things (I am a klutz), feeding my dog, putting lotion on my feet, the list goes on. I bought a "grabber", but refer back to the klutz comment. I would love some examples of a "bendability" timeline!
Thanks, I do love that people say what they think here ! ! !

I am pre-op and petrified!! Help!
Koolsyster: Bending over wasn't too much of an issue after just a couple of days as I remember, though I had TVH (begged for it) rather than TAH.
You might want to start a new thread entitled: BENDING OVER????
And ask all the sisters when they remember they could bend. It would be a good discussion. I recommend it!
Keep busy. The wedding sounds wonderful...............now you need to find some more activities to keep you madly busy before Monday. I start back to full time teaching Monday...........and I ain't ready, but I'll be thinking of you in the castle. BEST OF LUCK. Take care. Start that thread so you'll have lots of info about bending to think about in the castle.
E. I send a hug but can't post on quick reply.

I am pre-op and petrified!! Help!
Hi Candles!!........just another post-op to tell you that the waiting was definetly the worst part!!..I am 3 days post op from LSH with mesh bladder and rectal support...I was also so nervous before hand that I actually canceled it once and postponed it to Aug 22..........I woke up in hospital and was amazed that I did not have hardly any pain the whole first nite and Thursday....only was very uncomfortable when be walked into the bathroom the first time....I got home Thurs afternoon, less than 24hours after surgery ended...was able to get up and walk, very hunched over that day/nite...yesterday Friday I found it a little harder as my back had tightened up...slept sitting up in recliner last nite and was wide awake at 4am and what a difference that one day made...i now can walk around with barely any discomfort at all..only if I twist the wrong way.......so just wanted to let you know..you were not alone in the worrying dept...but I would be able to say that if I had to go thru it, knowing what i do now, I wouldn't have worried for even a minute....definetly not as bad as we tend to make up in our own heads sometimes...good luck and let us know how it went
