Jeen's Vaginal Hysterectomy Story

Vaginal Hysterectomy
Age at Surgery 70
Location: Springfield, Massachusetts

I had a total hysterectomy as I had systomatic pelvic organ prolapse stage ll with mixed incontinence. Previously, I tried the pessary ring and discharge was very annoying. I did get a second opinion and decided. Here I am almost three months after surgery and still experiencing slight discomfort and brownish discharge. Yesterday the discharge was thicker than usual. It seemed to happen after taking a long walk. I was told after my two post-op doctor visits that everything looked fine and that I was healing nicely. I was also told that I still have some sutures that haven't dissolved yet. My experience wasn't quite what I was expecting as I came home with a catheter and also had to self-catheterize myself for a few days. I'm wondering if the discharge and discomfort is normal at this point.

My hospital stay was, in my opinion, too short. I had general anethesia and woke from surgery in intense pain, which shouldn't have happened.

I was surprised how tight my pants fit after surgery, as they were much looser when I arrived for surgery. Here I am, almost three months later, and my pants/jeans are still tight. I am eating the same and have resumed my normal exercise routine for the past two weeks, as my doctor advised. I can't understand why my waist seems so much bigger, like it disappeared. This is really troubling to me. I don't have to return to the doctor til Nov. 2018, but am unsure if I may make an appointment sooner.

I am still not sure if I made the right decision. I am still not feeling as good as I thought I would at this stage.

I thought that since I exercised regularly before my surgery I would have healed quicker and generally felt better.
