post-op checks?

Had TAH on 3/2. My gyn has me coming in on 3/28 for a post-op check up (at 4 weeks). Am not sure if this will be a pelvic exam or not. This seems early to me. Will there probably be another check at 6 or 8 weeks? I know all docs are different but wondered how all this works. Am hoping to have just one pelvic exam until next year! Thanks, Karen

Re: post-op checks?

If u have a vaginal cuff than no exam, but every doc is different. I didn't have an exam until my 6wk post op. I saw him at my 3wk than 6wk no more check ups unless I need one or something is wrong, per my doctor.

Re: post-op checks?

OK now I feel silly. Do I have a vaginal cuff? You do if you had your cervix removed? Or do I have that backward? So no pelvic exam if you do have a vaginal cuff? Looks like I have some googling to do!

Re: post-op checks?

If ur cervix was removed than u have a vaginal cuff to close off that area. U will have an exam on 5/6wks to make sure the area is healing properly. No problem, I found most of my useful info on this site rather than Google!! Feel free to ask away, happy healing my dear!

Re: post-op checks?

I saw my doctor at one week. We went over the pathology report, he looked at my incision (my staples were removed and replaced with glue and tape the morning I left the hospital), and I asked a few questions. He said to see him again anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks for a pelvic exam. My cervix was removed so I have a cuff.

Re: post-op checks?

Thanks, Coffeencake! I had my staples out 7 days after surgery (saw a NP for that, not gyn himself). Have been back 3 times since then since my abdominal incision is not healing the greatest. It's slightly open in 2 spots (very superficial, fortunately. and it is now granulating nicely!). Don't have to go back now until my 4 week post-op appointment! Got my path results when I got my staples out-that was a relief.
Haven't even begun thinking about how my vaginal cuff is healing. I sure hope my insides are healing better than my outside!

Re: post-op checks?

My checkup was at 6 weeks and haven't been back to doctor since. Just had my 1 year anni. and need to schedule an appt. My doctor said he wanted to see me at the one year mark and then NO more pap's.. yay!

Re: post-op checks?

I had some infection, but I have been back to the Dr. 1week out, 3 weeks and last week 7 weeks out and had a exam EVERY time!
I was worry about having one after surgery as I hate to have one anytime but it was fine, no different then the regular one you get once a year. I am sure every doctor is different after reading the earlier post my doctor must be an overachiever
