39 and won’t stop bleeding
So I’m 39 and I can’t stop bleeding. It’s been 80 days minus the 3 days during my progesterone treatment. 1 day after stopping I started again and it’s been 8 days. Dr. put me back on meds, but it isn’t stopping this time. All tests come back normal besides a couple of cysts in my uterus. I told the Dr. I can’t live like this anymore and wanted a hysterectomy. After 2 weeks I finally received my quote of $12K. Feeling like a huge burden to my family and not doing too well.

39 and won’t stop bleeding
I bled 84 days straight and know what a toll it takes on our bodies! Do you have fibroids? Sounds like it. I had UFE instead of a hysterectomy. Cost a lot less, was an easy recovery and I have never bled again! My very last period ( older here) lasted 4 days, just like prior to fibroids. I suggest a liquid iron supplement such as Floradix. I kept a small bottle in my purse to swig throughout the day until you can get this resolved. UFE will stop this madness. You need an Interventional Radiologist, This is an advanced science, far beyond that of the gynecologist because it’s uterine sparring. Hang in there!

No fibroids have been found. Unless you need an MRI to find them? I’ve had different types of ultrasounds, but everything comes back normal.
I’ll definitely look into what you recommended though. That might be an option. Thank you.
Also, I’m not sure if I responded to this correctly so hopefully you see it

Re: 39 and won’t stop bleeding
Have you considered an IUD?
I would try to get a diagnosis before getting a hysterectomy

39 and won’t stop bleeding
I haven’t tried an IUD. I’ve tried everything except that. They even said an ablation probably wouldn’t work on me either because I’ve always had heavy bleeding.
I just found an article on adenomyosis, and that seems to coincide with everything I’m going through. It also suggested an IUD. Thank you for the info. I will talk to my Dr. about getting one.

Re: 39 and won’t stop bleeding
Hi! Uterine fibroids were detected in me, I began to have very abundant periods that did not stop and a short time later I became pregnant. After a risky pregnancy and cesarean section, I continued to bleed a lot postpartum, even the night of the cesarean section they had to give me two transfusions of packed red blood cells and a few months later I had to undergo an abdominal hysterectomy because the bleeding was still a lot. It turned out that I only had 1 fibroid and the rest was adenomyosis. it seems that it is very complex to be able to detect adenomyosis beforehand.

Re: 39 and won’t stop bleeding
That’s what I was reading too. I can’t even walk now because the muscles in my legs aren’t working. I went to the hospital my hemoglobin was 8.1 and they wouldn’t do a transfusion. I called my Dr. and the receptionist were terrible to me. I called other Dr.’s offices and they say it’s about 3 months out for a surgery. I’m so tired of everything.

Re: 39 and won’t stop bleeding
EMS03,
I’m so sorry for everything you’re going through. I know the magic number for a transfusion is in the 6’s, or at least that’s what my dr.‘s and hospitals said. How far away from your home are you looking for a doctor? I had to go 45 minutes away from my home to find a suitable doctor. I know others on this site have also had to go far from home to get the help they deserved. Please keep looking, and keep advocating for yourself. I don’t know about the price of your surgery, or your insurance situation, but look into all those things if you have the energy, if you don’t ask a close family member. I hope you get better news soon.

39 and won’t stop bleeding
I'm so sorry to hear that money worries stand in the way of your decision to take a proactive approach to your needs. Can you get another quote/opinion? This makes me sad as I know how you feel. I'm 53 years old, I've been bleeding since July 2019 (yup you read that right... 2019) with no real explanation (a whole lot of tests) and a bunch of cancer scares. I will hope you somehow find answers or a way to have the surgery.
