Upcoming hysterectomy 10/28: 10/15 Pre-Op

Good Morning,

Had both of my pre-op on Friday and it went well. The anesthesiologist appointment was in and out, but with GYN doctor was longer, but good. I asked all kinds of questions and she answered each one. Now just the COVID test on the 25th then surgery on the 28th. I been washing, cleaning, and trying to get my home together before this big day. A little nervous, but it needs to be done and I know that God ha my back.

I think having my house together and having casseroles or crockpot meals prepared was the best thing I did to prepare.

Praying my 13 year old and my 28 year old will help me a lot and hep with their little sister.

Definitely corral as much help as you can from your family members and friends to help with you little one. Here are articles that may provide information:

What I found most useful (I do not have children) was the following:
-Meals in the freezer that can be put in the microwave
-Easy foods for breakfasts and lunches
-Loose fitting clothing
-Prepare your recovery corner with pillows and blankets
-Plan entertainment for your brain
-Small pillow to hold against your tummy for coughs and sneezes (or pet visits)
-Super clean your house
-Get your hair cut

You will have lifting restrictions: 10 lbs for 6 weeks and 20 lbs for 8 weeks is common. You will also have driving restrictions: 2 weeks or more is not unusual. You also need to think in terms of weeks and not days for your recovery.

Yes - my sister will be coming down to help me for two weeks. My youngest is 7 and she’s a great help better than her older sister at times. I hate asking people for help - that’s that strong independence in me, but I have been asking family members that are here in TX with me. Most of my family is spread out… Having my oldest sister here will be a great great big help. I think I got most of the stuff I need. Pillow for my stomach, heating pad, a pillow to elevate my feet and use as a prop to sit up while in bed, foot stool bed a little high. Just need to stock up on frozen meals I like and lots of water…

A few more suggested items to have on hand for the big day and beyond: a good pair of walking shoes; peppermint tea, fiber from frozen blueberries and whole grain cereal like oatmeal or All Bran, ground flaxseeds, and magnesium from dark chocolate and pumpkin seeds for post-op constipation; fennel or coriander seeds to chew on after every meal for gas relief; a Squatty Potty or small footstool to elevate your feet while you're on the throne, which can help by properly aligning your rectum so the poop can pass through more smoothly; food delivery services on speed-dial; disposable dishes and cutlery to minimize clean-up work; extension cords for plugging in your electronics without a lot of undue bending or reaching; a grabber for picking up small objects off the floor.
