Hello Sisters! I am in week two (day 8) of recovery and feeling FABULOUS. There are four we have all heard, but I found really, and truly are keeping me moving forward quickly.
#1 - WALKING - movement helps the body to heal and get the system working the right way. Break up your day for three walks. They don't have to be long, just get up and get moving. It really does make a huge difference and helps you to get stronger more quickly.
#2 - LISTEN to your body - if you have energy, get up and do something - take a walk, sit outside in the sun and fresh air, talk to a friend. If you're tired, rest, rest, and rest
#3 - STAY ON TOP OF YOUR MEDS - don't be stubborn (like me) and think "I am doing good, I don't need any pain meds." I had to learn the hard way yesterday. I thought I didn't need them so I didn't take them. Well, let's just say it was a "fun" evening of playing catch-up. Remember, taking your medicine doesn't make a you weak, it is helping your body to heal and get the support it needs. Afterall, we just had MAJOR surgery.
#4 - MINDSET -
is everything. What you focus on mentally truly does make a difference in your outlook. Focus on the progress you are making, not where you have left to go. Dwell on how well you are doing, and how you can continue to heal. Focusing on pain, discomfort, discouragement, and the like will make the recovery process much more hellatious than it needs to be. Yes, pain sucks, but, it WILL pass.
Wishing all of the sisters a speedy recovery!
