Scar Tissue - 10+ years post hysterectomy

Hi all,
More than 10 years since my hysterectomy, yet I still have issues with abdominal pain on the left side only (have had for years). After multiple dr visits, the diagnosis is leaning toward scar tissue. Has anyone else had scar tissue diagnosis years after surgery? What have you done to try to treat the pain? Looking for something non-medication related, if possible. I'm scheduled to try some gyn physical therapy. Hoping to find some other ideas to get feeling better! Thanks!

Hi Robin12,

Big sigh. I feel your pain - literally.

I had my surgery in 2013 and have had varying levels of pain, also mostly on my left side - which is the location where my most extensive surgery was performed.

I’ve been through tests and the consensus is the pain is probably a result of scar tissue, nerve damage and/or a poor bladder lift procedure. Ugh. I finally consulted a urologist last month, and I have to start pelvic floor physical therapy. I’m not happy about this at all, but I’m tired of the pain and the frequency I go to the bathroom.

I hope you find answers and relief.

We must hang in there!

Thank you for sharing your story. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one experiencing these type of issues. Hope you get some relief as well.

Re: Scar Tissue - 10+ years post hysterectomy

I am sorry you continue to have pain after your hysterectomy. I can relate. My pain continued, went on a search with many doctors. At one point they did think it may be adhesions, but after finally convincing a doctor to take a look for adhesions none were found. I was frustrated to still have no answers. The doctor that went looking for adhesions suggested I try acupuncture. Has been my saving grace! I have been going for 17 years now. Most of my pain is now gone. Also, had another doctor that had me look into foods I was eating. Sticking to healthy eating, and knowing which foods aggravate my digestive system, helps to keep things in check. Many things I was eating were causing my stomach much distress, contributing to the pain I was feeling.

Re: Scar Tissue - 10+ years post hysterectomy

Hi Robin,

I just wanted to add that my new physical therapist has me doing homework - special yoga positions that help relax the pelvic floor. As well as deep relaxation breathing. Internally, my
Muscles are way too tight - contributing to the pain. Ugh.

See if these activities might be incorporated into your treatment.

Let me know if you get any updates.
