Re: Adenomyosis - options

I had tried EVERYTHING and some of the BC that stopped my periods worked GREAT! only issue was I turned 49 and had several small vessel strokes sooooo no more bc for me. I even tried to get it from Canada or buy it from friends I was so desperate for it to stop and couldn't stand the constant pain and bleeding. My gyno advised a total hysterectomy but I wasn't sold on it, 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions all agreed it needed to happen. I was scheduled for March 2020, hospital closed due to covid so "saved" (?)...pain and bleeding finally got so bad and anemia became serious so April 27th this year I had it done. Everything out! Best decision ever! Not gonna lie though that the first 4 weeks sucked. Pain wasn't really an issue just worn out and uti. Im 100% better, energy and gained two whole cabinets that used to be full of pads! I wish I had done it years ago!!!

Re: Adenomyosis - options

I am celebrating 5 yrs this Sept yes celebrating! I had my hysterectomy finally! Ihad your symptoms and worse for 10 yrs I bled so heavy I required two transfusions in the ER. My quality of life was awful, I planned everything around my period because it was so heavy, once it came early while I was out shopping and it soaked thru my clothes and the seat of my car, and my friend was with me, I had to explain it to her. So many stories I could tell but I decided to have a ablation first and that was the worst decision, it made the horrible cramps I had even more painful. I look back now and like you fear was why I didn’t do something sooner, I regret giving into fear and the “what if’s” my life is so much better now, I still have my ovaries and I am in menopause now which isn’t fun but I feel so much better not being anemic. If you have a good gynecologist then I wouldn’t hesitate. As far as the pelvic floor issues, anyone could have that happen like women who have lots of kids etc. Don’t let that deter you from quality of life today.

Adenomyosis - options

All of you guys experience have helped me tons. I was diagnosed with adenomyosis just recently. I'm scheduled for surgery 30th of August. I will have a robotic surgery. They hope to keep my ovaries but everything else will be gone. The more the time goes by the more I'm bloated, hurting and fatigue is a tough one.

I was freaked out too but honestly after surgery wasn't as bad as "normal" period with adenomyosis pain wise (didn't take but 2 pills of prescription pain meds) and being able to wear whatever I want and plan vacations and swimming parties without a spreadsheet of possible periods? Totally better after surgery Oh! And no anemia anymore!!!

Get a second and maybe a third opinion to put your mind at ease but if one suggests an ablation know it does not help with adenomyosis and you may be right back here after. You got this!!! Big hugs!

Adenomyosis - options

This is my third opinion....1st one was 10 years ago when they said no hysterectomy, absolutely not and told me to change positions (during sex), to relieve the pain. Second opinion also 10 years ago, doctor scheduled me for a complete hysterectomy without asking me why I wanted it. I tried to explain and he didn't want to know. I was scared because there was no informed consent and he told me the day before the surgery "we'll take it all, might as well while we're in there".....finally after years of pain I decided this past week to test my luck again....doctor did a pap, a biopsy, and ultrasound all one day, told me he wants another ultrasound and then will further discuss my options.....I figured he was a keeper for a gyno!
