((((buckcat)))) I'm so sorry you're still have a rough time at this stage of your surgery.

Please, give your doctor a call or drop by his/her office: we all have slightly different procedures and may not be recovering at the same rate. Please remember to try and keep your bowels "loose" by adding enough fiber to your diet, avoiding foods that can cause constipation and by drinking lots of water, preferably at room temperature. And walking helps the digestive system tremendously: I remember I would walk (just slowly, around the house) until I would just have to sit and let nature take it's course. Some doctors will also prescribe stool softeners such as colace to help things along.

Sending lots of s your way. Please do keep us posted.

rectocele post op still pain??

Buckcat,

My urogyn had me taking stool softners for making the bowels softer and easier. It really worked for me where sometimes too much fiber does wierd things to me. The stool softeners seemed more gentle for me, but everyone is different. You may want to give them a try and be sure you are drinking lots of water all day. The stool softners made it easier and then I was not so afraid to go..I think we get scared that we are going to hurt something by going, but just try to take your time and relax and maybe that will help some.

Hope you feel better!

rectocele post op still pain??

Hi again

It's hard for us to say how long it will hurt and when you'll be able to stop the stool softeners, as we're all different. For instance, in my case, I had the rectocele repaired at the same time as my hyst, therefore recovery was probably (most likely) different than it would have been had I had the repairs on their own.

I do remember that I didn't really have any pain, but succeeded, for once in my life, to keep the bowels very loose and very regular. I think that it was a reaction to the iron supplements I was on

I didn't take stool softeners, but did add just enough fiber to keep my bowels loose. I also drank water constantly, making sure it wasn't cold: cold water can be a shock to your system.

The rectocele repair, as I understand it, is also a major surgery and one that requires several weeks of recovery. As it is the case after any surgery, you have to give your body a chance to recover.

As mentionned before, it may be a good idea to give your doctor a call. He/she may have a very simple suggestion to relieve the pain.

Stay on the stool softeners until you feel you are completely healed. When I had my rectocele repair, I had no problems immediately after but discontinued the stool softeners too soon and started bleeding several weeks later. Better safe than sorry.
