Prolapse Problems after surgery

I had a total hysterectomy in January 2002. Six months ago I was diagnosed with bladder and rectal prolapse. I'm scheduled for pelvic floor repair Mar 27th. Just wondering if anyone out there had this same thing happen to them after a hysterectomy.

Prolapse Problems after surgery

Hi Leather, When I went for my annual pap, my doctor told me I had mild prolapse. I had no idea what it was and she suggested I do Kegal exercises. I saw a specialist and did several pelvic floor exercises for months still feeling this buldge whenever I stood up. Now the buldge is so uncomfortable, I can't stand it any more. This surgery will put me in the hospital 3 days--I was only in over night for a hysterectomy.

Prolapse Problems after surgery

I am one week post op for tvh and a&p repair which turned out to be total reconstruction of the organs. Icant say from experience about having those repairs after the hystorectomy, but I can say that the pain gets better every day and I feel i made the right decision. It turned out when they tried to remove my uterus it was bigger than expected. {adenomyosis} and that my organs were attached to it, and I recomend getting a body pillow and a donut pillow . They helped me tremendously in recouperation. I also recommend keeping up on pain meds I am now taking motrin in the day and one vicodeine at night to help sleep. It is not so bad in the end but You will be sore for a while/

What I'll be having is an Anterior/posterior repair with enterocele plication. Thanks so much for your quick reply. This web site helped me so much when I had my hysterectomy. I never thought I'd be back asking more questions, but it sure helps to talk to people who have dealt with simular issues.

Prolapse Problems after surgery

HI Leona
I had the A & P repair at the same time as my hyst. (Uterus was prolapsing too!) It was the cystocele and rectocele that were bothering me worse than the uterus. The A & P repair was done vaginally (as far as I know) and I really didn't have any problems with them, except that I couldn't SIT for very long. I'm still taking stool softeners to make sure that everything stays loose and I don't put any undue pressure on the rectal repair. I think my problems were cause by my 2 childbirths, especially the second one as DS "shot" out after only 3hrs quick labour. I'm fairly certain he cause most of the damage, and the surgeon who was called in to stitch things up didn't do a very good job. (IMO)

Prolapse Problems after surgery

Hi Beamer7

Well I hope you continue to feel better. I'm anxious to get this over with so I can get back to my old self. I love to exercise, and walking or running is about out of the question. Thanks so much for your quick reply.

Prolapse Problems after surgery

Hi Leona!

About 2 years after my hyster I had 3 "cele" repairs and a vault suspension. The repairs were done vaginally. I found the recovery from these repairs to be ALOT easier than the hyster. The rules are basically the same: no lifting, walk alittle, drink water and of course, no sex (till after your doc clears you). My doctor told me to listen to my body, when I get tired rest. If I may suggest, get stool softeners before you go into the hospital so when you come home you can start them right away. My doctor told me to start taking them as soon as I get home....they don't want you straining after the repairs. I needed a panty liner for about a month....just some spotting, nothing heavy.
I returned to work after 4 weeks, but started out doing 1/2 days for the 1st week..I am so Happy I had the surgery done, I feel like a new person!
Take care and keep us posted!

Prolapse Problems after surgery

Hi Leona! I had a hysterectomy and anterior and posterior repair in July. My repairs failed and I am scheduled for a revision on April 24th. Like you I am not quite sure what to expect this time. I'm just looking forward to getting this done and over with and finally starting to feel better. Good luck with your surgery, please let me know how everything went.

By any chance did you have the surgery done using laparoscopy? My doctor tells me it can't be done that way; however, my sister tells me tonight she's found a doctor where I live that says "yes" it can be done that way.
