Please give me some info: da Vinci hyst

I have been looking at this website for several months while I considered my options. I am now set for Oct 1 to have a serious chat about the hysterectomy with my doctor. He is only going to remove the uterus. I have very long history of female related issues steming from ovarian cysts, endometerosis, and now what is called Pelvic Congestion Syndromn. I am wanting to know some info on this topic. Mine will be done thru the Di Vencia.

You might find it helpful to read our page that discusses the various hysterectomy times including the da Vinci hysterectomy:

https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/view_opt2.htm

Making a list of all of your questions and concerns that you can take with you to your appointment would be wise! You may even want to read through some of the information in our Resource Database. We have information about a variety of gynecological health issues and the treatments for them.

Is your surgeon skillful when it comes to endometriosis? I ask as there is not cure for that condition so you want to be sure your surgeon will have the ability to remove as much endo as possible.

Under30 -

As Weiser points out endometriosis surgery should be performed my a doctor that specializes in endometriosis treatment and removal.

The benefit of having someone trained in this procedure using the daVinci surgical system would be the magnified vision that the surgeon has of the area where s/he is operating. They system gives them a 10x magnification and they have very precise control of the system. As with all surgeries there are risks and if necessary the surgeon can convert to an open abdominal procedure.

There is a description of endometriosis and the options for treating it on the daVinci site. If you search 'daVinci surgery and endometriosis' you will find the information.

In my humble opinion you (from everything I've seen, heard or read) you may want to get a second opinion from an endometriosis specialist who can do a daVinci surgery to get the most comprehensive view of treatments and alternatives.

and good luck in your search for you best options.

Re: Please give me some info: da Vinci hyst

Hi, thank you so much for the help. My gyn doctor is very skilled and I am very confident in his work. He has done of my other surgeries. He has given me other options such as Lupron to take but I am totally against it. When he removes my usterus, is it possible that he will also be able to remove the endo to?

Depends on the skill of your surgeon. Not all surgeons can skillfully remove endometriosis successfully. There are doctors who can remove some of the endo, but not all of it. For instance, my own GYN used the coagulation method to remove my endo and that is not the best method. Additionally, he was unable to remove the endometriosis on my bowel walls. Consequently, that endo continued to cause problems, allowed recurrence, and required additional surgery with a specialist down the road.

Endometriosis requires exceptional surgical skills and knowledge. There is no cure for endometriosis, not even a hysterectomy with/without an oophorectomy so it can be critical to find a top notch surgeon to do your surgeon to minimize future issues. Many of us have great GYN's who we love and trust but who do not have the ability to offer us the best outcome.
