Re: Surgery scheduled.....getting nervous

Had my surgery on 5/6 - am moving around slowly - (many repairs to rectum and bladder sling, etc). Peeing just fine, bm happening regularly and pain free. Feels like I've been rearrranged down there.

Walked 5 houses yesterday - will walk again today. Friends bringing in lunch. Have showered, washed hair - slowly getting back into the swing of things. Really taking it easy because I don't want any set backs.

Finished 5 days of antibioitics this am. Seriously cut back on ibuprophin. Still taking pericolase and stool softeners. Will begin to cut back on pericolase. Have been drinking A LOT of water. I think this really helps 'wake up' the equipment!!!!!

Laparo incisions - less swelling and soreness each day. I'm wearing stretchy capri pants (not beautiful - but comfortable).

Pre op sisters - the waiting will kill you! It's the worst. The anxiety I had before I went in was out of control. Because there are so many variables in each surgery - it's very hard to find peace of mind - just thinking about everything and every complication. Have confidence in your doctor.

Hang in there!

topteach - Have you been put on HRT yet? I'm having both ovaries removed too. I'm just curious about how that will affect me "after" the surgery... my doctor wont put me on anything for 3 months due to my endometriosis...

Re: Surgery scheduled.....getting nervous

I am post menopausal(naturally) my ovaries were removed 4 years ago - dr and I never really discussed hrt. At the time I was worried the hrt would stimulate my appetite (my weight isn't in a great place). Now that I've had my hyst we haven't discussed hrt.

I see the dr. next week. The conversation I plan to have with him - is how he should prepare a pamphlet for big chicken patients (like me)about hyst. Based on what I have read on the internet - I have spent a lot time reading horror stories and worrying myself into HIGH ANXIETY (no matter what he told me). Having information is power. I would have been in a better place mentally earlier in the game if I had a pamphlet to reread 10 zillion times.

I see from your post you are having tlh - I have to think that this recovery is a lot easier than an abdominal hyst. My lapar incisions are sore, not terrible. Each day I am feeling less 'beat up'.

The first bm was a trip - because I wasn't totally emptied (before surg). My dr. told me to do a fleet enema. If your dr. tells you to do a serious cleanse - do it - because if you have stuff sitting in your intestines - it's murder to get things moving....remember to drink BIG TIME (even if you aren't thirsty). The stool softeners and fiber pills have helped keep things soft. BM - no problem.

Good luck! Be strong

Re: Surgery scheduled.....getting nervous

Thank you!! I do have to do a colon cleanse. I have to drink something and then do the enema the morning of. I haven't looked at it all yet. I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed with everything. I didn't think I'd be worried about it, but I am. There are horror stories that you read and hear, then you hear all the great stories. I know that everyone is different, but still it gets your mind going. I too have been reading anything and everything I can get my hands on...
