Re: Abdominal binder?
I decided to buy one even though my surgery will be laparoscopic. I sleep on my side, and the swelly belly will make it too difficult for me to sleep without something wrapped around my midsection.

Re: Abdominal binder?
Can u tell me if u wish to, what kind of type of oper u had, and how it felt pain wise and for moving around?? And for getting up etc?? But I hope u are managing okay, plus how did u get home from castle so quick???? As for the binder, Yes I would think constant use may possibly weaken the abdominal muscles, by working less, but I wanted it for eventual shopping, hitting the concrete, jiggling the tummy area mostly!

Re: Abdominal binder?
I'm getting one since I feel like it might help with coughing, sneezing and things like that. I have had 3 abdomnal surgeries and never had a binder before and I hated feeling like everything was getting shifted around everytime I got up so I'm hoping the binder helps. I'll find out in a few weeks

Re: Abdominal binder?
I bought one on ebay, and it was post op for C sections works great. smooth too. If you are in the US, the doc most likely can order one at hospital and your insurance will pay for it.

Re: Abdominal binder?
Are any of u recovering ladies having any burning or any great swelling where the abdominal incision is, if yes, that is why I wanted the binder with the pouch to hold the flexible 2 ice paks that came with hystersisters binder with pouch, or how else are u going to keep the ice pak against the incision while walking around???

Re: Abdominal binder?
Silly question here I'm sure but... what exactly feels like it's "falling out" or "getting shifted around"?!!!

Re: Abdominal binder?
I am also on the heavier side and also appreciated having the binder during my hospital stay. Once I came home, it was a pain to try to put it around my waist so I folded it up and wore it between my underwear and pants and it seemed to the trick. I wore it the first 2 and 1/2 to 3 weeks or so.
However, I would check with the hospital where you are having the surgery. Especially if you have insurance. The local University Medical Center Community Hospital where I had my surgery gave me an abdominal binder, packet of wipes to clean myself off, packet of maxipads, bathing gel not requiring washing off, and 2 pairs of slipper socks to wear around the hospital. I probably paid for all these items on my bill but my portion of the bill was just under $1600 for 3 nights in the hospital. It was worth it to me to just have the hospital provide these items because then I did not have to haul them to the hospital or worry about where everything was that I brought during my surgery and time in recovery. I was not in my right mind until the morning after surgery.
I did not know about Hyster sisters before my surgery but I do think their binder looks like a great product. I like that you can put ice packs inside. I had to have someone go to Walgreens for me the day after I came home to get an ice pack as I did not realize I would need one and we were unable to find the ones in our disorganized freezer. Oh well, I am now 8 weeks post op and having a pretty good recovery period with no complications.
