Chemo & radiation before recovery?

Hi everyone. I hope all are healing well and getting good pathology reports. As for me, last week I was told I had stage 3A endometroid adenocarcinoma and would need both chemo and then radiation therapy even though the cancer has been removed. This is "curative" or in my mind, preventive.
Today both doctors called me to schedule appts. Isn't 3-4 weeks past surgery too soon to start chemo? I was under the impression that we needed to recover first and then get into treatment.
I've been told that chemo can start in 2 weeks!
This is totally stressing me out. Has anyone had experience with this?
Thanks for any advise.

Chemo & radiation before recovery?

It might be too soon I guess if you have a difficult recovery, but most recover pretty quickly. And it's internal radiation that's really requires full recovery and that is generally done after chemo. I also had 3A, had surgery on Nov 27, and started chemo on Dec 19, so a little over 3 weeks. I don't think there was any effort to wait past 3 weeks, that was just the time it took for post op appointments and scheduling the chemo.

Hang in there, I know you've had a lot to take in. It's a rough road for a while, but it does get better. I'm approaching 3 years since end of treatment.

Re: Chemo & radiation before recovery?

Thanks so much LisaPizza! I think I'm overreacting but this is so overwhelming and I thought I'd be lazy and take my time healing. I guess you can tell that I'm not thrilled at the thought of treatment when I'm just starting to feel better.
Thanks again for your reply and best wishes for continued remission!

Re: Chemo & radiation before recovery?

Hi annao

Sorry that you find yourself having to go through this treatment so soon after surgery, but time is always of the essence with any type of cancer.

I had a localised recurrence a year after my surgery, and had to have chemo and external radiotherapy. It was tough going some days, but manageable. I guess you’re getting everything thrown at you in one go!

But, once you’re through this treatment you’re hopefully done with it all.

Stay strong!

Re: Chemo & radiation before recovery?

The sooner one starts radiation, chemo, etc., the less time any lurking cancer cells have to multiply and spread. The less cancer and the less spread, the better the outcome.

I hated having to wait to start radiation. Even though it was only weeks, it seemed like *forever* until we started.

May God bless you with His perfect peace and healing.

Re: Chemo & radiation before recovery?

Thank you ladies for your replies and encouragement.
I've met with one of the oncologists and will see the other Wednesday. I'm starting chemo on the 25th and still not sure when radiation will begin.
It's totally scary but I know others have gone through it and have survived so I will survive also! :-))
