If you are a coffee addict "just say no" to any surgery other than 7:00 am or sooner. The headache from caffeine withdrawal coupled with the stress of the day of surgery can make you more miserable than the surgery!

Explain to me? Is she saying to drink coffee? I'm

Re: Question on something from the site
She is saying you can't drink coffee the day of surgery. So if you're a big coffee drinker, you should try to have an early morning surgery time. Otherwise you may have a headache from lack of caffeine.

Re: Question on something from the site
She is saying if you are addicted to coffee, try to make sure you have your surgery scheduled for early in the morning in order to avoid withdrawl symptoms while you are waiting for the surgery and are not able to eat or drink anything.

Re: Question on something from the site
Generally when you have surgery you are not allowed to have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before.
My pre-op package says that I can have clear liquids (including black coffee) up to four hours before my surgery, which is scheduled for 1:30pm

Re: Question on something from the site
Isn't it crazy, the caffeine need?! My surgery was at 7:30 and done 12:ish. As soon as I was with it enough, I had apple juice, water, a diet Pepsi and a hot cup of surprising good coffee. It was almost as good as the morphine.

Re: Question on something from the site
My surgery was scheduled for 2:30 in the afternoon and I was allowed clear liquids, including coffee, until 10:30. Clearly the doctors have never had my husband's coffee
At any rate - if you do suffer caffeine withdrawals, be sure to tell the anesthesiologist. Many will include caffeine in the drip so you don't wake up with a headache. No Joke!
