Re: Upcoming hysterectomy may 11 , severe panic attacks

Hi Tamf,
I am so sorry, wow you have had a rocky road getting to your surgery date. I think having a surgery cancel would stress anyone out. Glad you have had some wonderful ladies reply to your post. I hope you can truly feel the love and support from those here walked the path before you.

It is hard not to be afraid of the unknown and not having 100% control of what happens. Think this was my biggest problem! I started to second guessing do I really need this surgery and what will recovery be like. I needed to shift my thinking as I was starting to spin and it was not helping. I needed to find a way to make peace and that it was okay as a strong woman to need this surgery for a better quality in life. Thankfully, I found this website and the sisters posting on the forums put some of my fears to ease. So, I could BREATHE! Lean on your support system and have faith that you are in good hands with your surgeon and medical team.

Here are a few article from the library here that you might find helpful:

I wish you all the best.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy may 11 , severe panic attacks

I had so many questions and concerns and finally one day I sat and wrote them down and I found an answer to all but 3 on this website. The reason this website could not answer them was due to my own medical history so they are reserved for my doctor preop. Then I just started focusing on getting everything ready here. I am walking more, eating better, taking time to enjoy life more.

I wish I knew an answer for anxiety and panic attacks but the best thing to do is get out of the house and get focused on something else. I think fear causes us to look at things through a magnifying lens and makes those things look a lot worse than they really are. Turn that to focus on how awesome the medical world is now that can do this surgery so much easier for all concerned.

Just look at the numbers on this website Tamf! That's how many women have gone before us down this road and made it!!!! YOU WILL TOO!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy may 11 , severe panic attacks

Hi - May 10th it will be 3 years since surgery, all is going well but I also had anxiety before surgery. 3 things I found useful - 1. guided meditation, there are many available on youtube - I liked one by David Wilson for preparation for a successful surgery ( also has a post surgery version ). 2. clean the house ( if you an afford hire someone ) 3. grocery shop - stock the house with things that are easy to prepare and the treats that you like. also there a lots of lists on this site of things to buy for post surgery . for me that included ice packs , PJs 2 sizes too big, a couple sun dresses for going back to work, and a couple undershirts one size too small ( kind of holds you with no seams ) ... there was more but I don't remember. we each have to take all the suggestions and make it work for ourselves. I told the surgeon I thought of her as the Pilot ( someone I needed to trust to get me where I wanted to go ) and she said No, that I was the pilot and the procedure was directed by the decisions that I had made. so I said she was co-pilot hope you have a smooth surgery and speedy recovery.

I have been reading on the internet about funny things people say under anesthesia. Maybe it would make you laugh.
