Are my fibroids getting bigger?
I had a Thermablation in February due to what my Ob originally thought was a polyp causing heavy bleeding. At my follow up in April, he said it was actually a small fibroid. He told me to come back in if I started having problems. My question is :the fact that I'm now having almost constant spotting, and have gone from periods every 28-35 days, to 10-30 days. That's right, 10 days. I had the weirdest one in July (16 days apart, spotting and skin coloured tissue near the end). I hate this. I have to wear a pad every day now in case I spot or bleed. Is my fibroid ( or multiple?) getting bigger? I can't seem to find any Googles on symptoms of growth, and I'm unsure whether I should go to the hassle of being referred again to the Ob.
Are these symptoms typical? I also think I may be in Peri, since I'm having hot flashes all the time now. I'm 37, so I guess it's possible.
Anywho, thanks for any replies.

Re: Are my fibroids getting bigger?
Well, yes fibroids can make your cycle screwy.
And they can cause spotting.
37 seems young for hot flashes, but then I am not a doctor.
I actually would go see my doctor to get a hormone test and an ultra sound to measure the fibroid. Then at least you have a base line.
Also in my research about fibroids (I ended up having a LSH in the end as mine grew to be huge.) but in my research I learned that one thing they think causes fibroid growth is hormone imbalance, so you might need to balance your hormones.

Re: Are my fibroids getting bigger?
Fibroids can grow pretty rapid, believe me! Sept. 08 at my yearly, my doctor told me "I can feel a small fibroid, let's keep an eye on it and you may need an ultrasound in a few years to measure it." Ok, sure, whatever and I forgot about it. Then, this summer I started spotting, cramps, etc.. But, I had an IUD and this should not be happening. So, I went in this past July.
My 'little" fibroid was removed less than a year later and ended up growing to be 2lbs! And, my DR was very surprised by it. Even the ultrasound didn't show it to be that large. He thinks it was growing at a rapid rate because my estrogen levels had skyrocketed.
So, yes your fibroid could be growing. Go see your doctor and get things checked out. It'll also ease your mind!

Re: Are my fibroids getting bigger?
Hi, you may want to contact your doctor. I have heard that many women(even my personal friends) that have had the procedure ended up bleeding worst than before. I'm not saying that some women hasn't had successful procedures done but from what I read most have ended up going back in having the procedure done again or either just getting a hysterectomy. Talk to your doctor

Re: Are my fibroids getting bigger?
Thanks for your replies ladies.
Ugh, I soooo don't want more surgery, but I just don't see myself living for many more years with this erratic bleeding. My doc had said that if I didnt get "desirable" results from the ablation, that we would have to discuss doing another one, or a hyst. I think I may just opt for the hyst, if needed.
And, omg, 2lb fibroid? Did you have localized pain from it? I get the occasional "ripping, burning" pain in my right side abdomen that doubles me over, but the doc wasn't concerned.
Anywho, I will call on Tues next week and see if they can get me in for a checkup.

Re: Are my fibroids getting bigger?
Hi Jessica,
I had so many odd pains, my doctor couldn't explain them until he took out the fibroid! It was not a ball, but in the shape of a steak and it sat front to back and across. Plus, it sat low. So, it caused bladder issues, constipation issues, pressure on my ovaries and appendix, right hip pain, my uterus was equal to 5 month pregnant which moved my UID out of reachable distance for removal, and there was pressure on my pelvic bone! Yea, it caused issues!
I never had ripping pain, but I did have burning pain low in the pelvic area, but on my left side. And, I did go see my doctor about it. He could not confirm, but he thought the fibroid was putting pressure on my ovary and causing the pain.
If your doctor isn't concerned about "ripping, burning" pain that doubles you over, I'd recommend getting a 2nd opinion. If your current DR still doesn't seem concerned at the checkup, get a 2nd opinion. Nobody should be in pain or feel uncertain about their body like this.
Hugs!
Shawn
