Surgery Postponed/Cancelled!?!

After years of putting this surgery off (TAH), I finally came to terms with it and had a date of 2/14/05. I just found out that there are problems with my pre-op blood test, and in all likelyhood, the surgery will be cancelled. Has anyone else ever had a problem with a thyroid blood test interferring with surgery? I am not on any thyroid medication and my bloodwork was fine in July.

I can' t put into words how frustrating this is!! I know there are sister out there with worse medical problems, but it was tough for a scardy cat like me to come to terms with surgery.

Hi there spacenut. To answer your question. I was in the same spot you are in. I had my pre op blood work done 2 weeks before my operation. My white cell count was down and the lab said i might not have the operation as my body was fighting off some sort of infection. well i had to go to my dr the week before for more blood work. ANd thank god she said all was good. I had my TAH on jan 28 05. Like you i was scared beond words. I was almost happy when they said i might not be able to have the Operation. (well part of me anyways). I was going to cancell a couple of times. You see iam a single mom and the thought of my kids have to do so much. was very troubling to me. Then Like normal the dreadful time of the month would come and no work for 2 days and no getting out of bed. So i say that i was doing more harm to my kids, by not having it. I also went through, oh my god iam only 30 and single. I am going to be single my whole life as what if i meet some one and they want to have kids. I have to say oh sorry. That was the hardest part for me, to get over. But then once again i would be doubled over in pain and be like screw it, let him have the kid. So don't be scared, and talk to your dr.
