Should I Stay, Or Should I Go?

This indecision is killing me.

I need the surgery to eliminate monthly pain, and I know
that the timing is NEVER going to be right, but dang it, so
many good things are happening right now, this is just
going to throw a wrench into everything!

What do I mean?

1. I just got on the scale and I have lost 5 pounds of the
40 I need to lose, the surgery is going to going to
completely stop all workouts for at least 6 weeks, and I am
on a roll.

2. I just completed my first freelance assignment and I am
starting to get referrals. I haven't brought in any money
for over a YEAR, and have been waiting for this day
forever. The surgery is going to mess that all up too.

Help!

Should I Stay, Or Should I Go?

Hi AltheaRose,

If you want my vote...I say go for the surgery date. Your signature line shows you are having a LAVH, a less invasive hyst which means if your surgery goes as expected, you could be back to work in 3-4 weeks, depending on how you feel. I had a LSH, a sister lap to the LAVH and I went back to work at 2 weeks. Just took it really slow and delegated a lot.

You might just want to get the surgery out of the way if you are starting to get some good leads. It might be harder to schedule surgery if you get busier. Plus, for me, my hyst gave me my ~quality of life~ back and I felt better on the job and in my personal life.

On exercising...I am a gym fanatic. I was able to go back to the gym at 6 weeks.. and until that time I did some light walking to keep up my exercise level and I watched what I ate. And, I did not gain weight in post-op.

Bottom line..my opinion being expressed...do what is right for you.

Best wishes,

Mary

I'd go for it too, Althearose. Think of how better you will feel with the monthly pain all gone. Also, I actually lost weight post surgery! My appetite was smaller, I ate smaller portions, I did not want alcohol and I was doing the prescribed walking every day.Just my opinion....best of luck in your decision making.

Should I Stay, Or Should I Go?

I say go for it as well. I was one who put mine off because I own my own business and the timing wasn't right. However, I feel SO much better now that the surgery is done, that I wish I had taken the time to do it sooner. My business is running far more effectively now that I am feeling well ALL of the time (minus a little swelly belly, but seriously that is a minor issue) and I was honest with my clients that I had to have a surgery done and would only be out for a short time but would be on the computer frequently and by the phone as much as possible. I tell ya, even though I was resting, I sure got a lot of e-mail answered and scheduling done for months out! I wish now that I had done it right away and gotten the waiting over with and "on with life" as a princess.

Should I Stay, Or Should I Go?

Thanks Ladies -

I am extremely ANGRY today. Things are FINALLY going well
and now this. I was scheduled for July 25th, but I
postponed so I could spend some quality time with my
daughter (I am a single mom) and I am SO glad I did.

Now, with the job FINALLY taking off and the weight
FINALLY coming off...well, I am just ticked!

On Valentine's Day in 2003 I was at my goal weight of 140.
Then I broke my leg and went up to 160, which is where I
was on my birthday in 2005 when I broke my other leg! I
went up to 180. Then I went on WW and got down to 162 when
I started my new job and went back up to 180 again! I am
now down to 175 and could see myself being at 160 by
Christmas if I DIDN'T have the surgery.

I am really MAD right now, at myself and my body.

Thanks for listening...

I agree with the others, get it done now. Since this time last year I have lost approximatly 30 pounds - most of which I lost after surgery. I didnt have much of an appetite for probably a month. But I made sure that I ate healthy and walked a lot. My DH is still amazed that I dont eat portions like I use to and am not forcing myself to finish off those huge servings when we go out. At 6 months post op I feel better than I have in years. This is just my thoughts - however you must make the final decision yourself.

Should I Stay, Or Should I Go?

There is no perfect time! I postphoned having my done for about five years. I just delayed the inevitable and my periods got worse and worse.....

While recovering, I set my goal to maintain my weight within 5 pounds and I did just that. You should be able to walk moderately while recovering; not at warp speed mind you, but enough to keep you up and about.

Now that the surgery is over, I feel so much better! and what a relief no to have to worry about my periods anymore.

I put my workout's and diet on hold for 6 weeks while recovering, now at about 2 1/2 months post surgery, I have lost 10 pounds and am back at the gym doing more cardio than before.

It was worth it; now I wonder why I waited so long.....

When did you start feeling energetic, I hope not until 6 months post op?
I might as well take the $1200 I paid for my ski pass and throw it away right now...

Should I Stay, Or Should I Go?

Hi AltheaRose,

I got a ski pass for Lake Tahoe, the year I had surgery. The resort allowed me to throw it over to the next ski season year since I hadn't used it and I had a medical note from my Dr. You might check on that.

Otherwise...depending on how you feel, ski season here lasts until April. So you might be up to it!!!
