Sharing a Laugh

Hi Ladies,

Okay so I am generally a happy person and often tell my friends,"try to keep your chin up......even if you have to tie a dishtowel around your head and make rabbit ears!!"

I am no stranger to surgery to say the least. I had major gallbladder surgery (cut from breast to navel) at age 17, an emergency c-section with twins, abdominal appendectomy, left partial nephrectomy ( removal of part of kidney due to stage 2 cancer through a large flank incision involving rib removal), a stab phlebectomy (varicose vein), D&C and laparoscopy..................and other assorted unpleasant medical episodes.

I have been bleeding since April 16th, the day of my D&C. I am having surgery (planned SAH with left ovary removal) in 18 days and I'm feeling beaten up and down.

I happened to be talking to my friend who always makes me laugh till it hurts. She had a TAH at age 36 (ten years ago). She was taking a little trip down memory lane. Some of her favorites were:

1. Having clots so huge that they were able to catapult her tampons into the toilet and then checking to make sure it was actually not a clot by checking for the string.

2. Taking a shower and leaving behind what looked like a crime scene being filmed for an episode of 48 Hours.

3. Trying to use the railing in the hospital hallway during her shift as a nurse to walk upright, so that she didn't resemble a neanderthal man.

4.Wearing what resembled a small twin mattress between her legs!

Needless to say by the end of our conversation, I was crying with laughter! It was just the boost I needed to get me back on track. I have been down this road before and have manged to move forward. It has always helped to have a great laugh along the way!

I hope you get a laugh out of her memories as well.......soon they will only be memories for all of us!!
