Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 05-Jul 11,2021
Hi all! Been quieter here - hope that's because we're all feeling better and are getting back to normal lives!
Personally, I felt like I had been slowly chugging along and was getting nervous as I was getting to weeks 7 and 8 because I didn't feel as good as I thought I should. I had in my head "you'll be all better by 8 weeks! just gotta make it to 8 weeks!" but I was still very fatigued, had body aches, trouble sleeping, etc.
Sometime during week 8, though, I feel like a switch went off! It was very sudden, but I felt amazingly better starting a few days before my 8 week checkup! It took me offguard how gradual I felt my reconvery had been going, then suddenly I felt almost entirely back to normal!
I'm still a bit more fatigued than I was before the surgery, but it's really not that bad.
I do have one question for you all, however...at my 8 week appointment, my surgeon cleared me to start getting back to my normal routine. She said the vaginal cuff looks like it healed nicely, so I can start trying ~relations~ with my man-person again...which we promptly did Only problem was he says if he goes too deep, there's something in there that hurts him! He said it feels like he was being poked or something (he wasn't very helpful at describing the pain...) My first thought was maybe he was still feeling some stitches, but shouldn't those have dissolved away by now? Anyone have a similar complaint from their man-people? I tried getting up there with my hand to feel around, but I didn't find anything sharp or pointy that might have "poked" him. I'm sure it feels different for him, since he's not bumping up against a soft cervix anymore, but does a vaginal cuff feel that different for the guy? (I felt fine, btw! it was amazing without the pain of all those fibroids in there!!)
Happy Friday!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 05-Jul 11,2021
I'm with you in that it might be some remaining stitches. They don't necessarily have to be "pokey", but that they're just present. The other thought is that when the cuff is first healed, the tissues aren't very elastic or flexible. It leads to sensations of being tight, short, etc. I'm well aware that with skin wounds it takes time for the cell matrix to cross link, flatten (ie. less bumpy-lumpy) and become more flexible, and there probably something similar going on with the cuff. It should become more elastic with time.

Hi everyone - I am at 10 weeks and actually feeling pretty good! I had both ovaries removed so I have been on a estrogen patch, along with Estradiol vaginal cream 2x a week and taking progesterone at bedtime, which helps so much with being able to sleep. It feels good to be making progress. Thank you and Hope you all have a great weekend!

I just had the pokey thing tonight! We have had great intercourse since I was cleared in early September (July 5th hysterectomy). Now, at 3 1/2 months out, he said I kept hitting something like metal. Said it poked him and his penis hurts now. Ugh!! Shouldn’t stitches be dissolved by now?

You would think so... but it depends on what kind of stitches your doctor used. Also be aware that some can remain in place even as they're falling apart. After my March surgery, the surgeon mentioned that he used 90-day stitches on the abdominal wall: beyond 90-days they were no longer effective, but they could still remain beyond their useful life.
If it continues to be an issue, let your doctor know. It may be possible to remove it during an in-office visit.

Hi! At my 6 wk check up, stitches were not dissolved and actually quite painful when touched. I was not cleared for intercourse. I went back at 90 days and the stitch was still present, although less painful to touch. My surgeon said the stitch he used doesn’t dissolve fully for 180 days! I was cleared for intercourse, however, because they said my cuff had fully healed. Fast forward until this past weekend and one of the stitches came out of my vagina! It felt irritated all day and then I saw why. As long as you’re not bleeding bright red (new blood) or showing signs of infection, it’s pretty normal. Poor guy though! It might be one of yours working it’s way out. Good luck!

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 05-Jul 11,2021
I finally went to my doctor yesterday about “the pokey thing”. After my boyfriend said, “I’m not sure about sex…. She bites!” Which subsequently had my sister and best friend saying they imagined Audrey 2 from “The Little Shop of Horrors”. Sigh…. Lol
She removed one stitch and part of another. There was a third she could feel, but couldn’t get because it was under tissue. That one has been causing me pain periodically. No sex for two weeks. Not that he would want to because he quite possibly has PTSD from being poked.
I asked her about HRT as well. Did blood work and confirmed I am in menopause even with still having my left ovary. Starting estrogen as soon as possible. The hot flashes, onion smelling sweat and mood swings have got to go! Wish me luck!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 28-Jul 04,2021
I can't believe my TLH was 4.5 months ago. Feeling lucky to have that behind me without too many complications, and definitely underestimated healing time. I've returned to life pre-surgery gradually and have gotten back to regular exercise.
So...posting today because I have an odd feeling inside the vagina, but just on one side. Kind of feels like a tight muscle rather than pain, but it's up in there. I'm assuming this is normal, but of course am worried it's not. Anyone else have this? It's a fairly constant sensation, but not really that painful, just sort of sore.
Hopefully it's related to increase in exercise, but it' been around for 2 or 3 days now. No other symptoms or anything. Is this a wait-and-see, or should I get it checked out?
Thanks for all the help through all of this! Couldn't have made it this far, this well, without all of you!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 05-Jul 11,2021
My initial thought is that it's from the step-up in activity. I kicked up my core routine's intensity at 5+ months thinking I could handle 5 minutes of it... and experienced dull cramps and swelly belly as if I were back at 6 weeks!
Give exercise a break for a few days up to a week, and when you resume, whatever intensity you left off at, step back to where you were before. If this sensation doesn't go away with days or a week off, then I'd get your doctor's take on it.

Laying here not being able to sleep so I decided to see what was going on here. I am trying to get back to normal after having the surgery but live just seems totally different. I guess with COVID and working from home some days is making me lazier and lazier. I am on hormone replacement it was the lowest does .5 something like that and it has helped all hot flashes which has been great. The only thing it does help is desire for sex. It just doesn’t feel the same as it used to and is hard to adjust. I also seem to get easily annoyed lately. Talked to my doctor and she increased the hormones another .5 but doesn’t seem to do much difference now I just can’t fall asleep at night. I’ve seen a lot of posts about hormone replacement has anyone had a success story and it helping? Right now wishing I never had the total hysterectomy including ovaries done.
