Hysterectomy or not? unusual reasons for

Hello,
I am 34 for years old and have had my tubes tied, 5 c-sections did my body in. I have struggled with irregular periods all my life, I also struggle with severe pms and depression. The longer I go between periods the worse I seem to feel and get. I have tried every dosage available as far as birth control pills are concerned to regulate me, but they all make me crazy. It seems that any extra hormones in my body is more than I can handle. My Dr. asked if I wanted a Hysterectomy, that he would leave the ovaries for hormone production, but that maybe that would help me. I do not know what to do, I just want to get back to feeling normal, I'm not sure I know what that is. I have struggled much more since they tied my tubes. Is that normal? Any insight, ideas, or anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you have a hysterectomy and leave the ovaries there is still a good chance you will have the same PMS and hormone issues after surgery. Just removing the uterus and cervix would not eliminate all of your problems. If you have a complete hysterectomy you will most likely still have hormone isses to deal with.

A hysterectomy is a major surgery. I would encourage you to do as much research as possible - HysterSisters had an awesome Resources section. I would also get another doctor's opinion - and even a third or fourth opinion. Don't rush into anything before you do plenty of research and see what other options may be available to you. Just my opinion, but I would see what other options may help and consider a hysterectomy only if there are no other options for you.

Hi,
I had my tubes tied about 10 yrs. ago. I too had MAJOR pms after. Of course my doctor said there was no side effects from a tubal and I thought I was going crazy. I'm in the process of thinking about a hysterectomy too. But mine is from endometriosis with some lovely cysts. I really think the tubal changed the hormone levels to cause the pms. I have talked to a coulple of people and they say the same thing. I don't know if a hysterectomy will help the mood swings though. If you find an answer, please let me know.

Famie - has your doctor checked your hormone levels? Maybe you are going through early menopause. You might want to check.

Also, you could try something other than birth control pills. They used to make me CRAZY but my doctor put me on prempro for 10 days a month and that really helped alot.

I know there are other options - definately get another opinion.

Good luck!
