I am not able to swim, and that is frustrating.
My Dr. said the walking is good and knows I am having a hard time not getting back into my routine of fitness classes everyday and a good 5 mile walk daily.
I do feel too good which gets me into trouble!

I do the same thing with the chores. Breaking them up so to speak. Went to the grocery store the other day and had the nice young man pack only a few items in each bag. i had to make several trips...but that was good also as it increased my walking

August 1st, have a cool day

I do get in 5 miles per day but in little blocks of walking. I just went out since the last post and did four 1/2 mi. laps where I live so that's 2 mi. down and 3 mi. to go for today. It was cool out but the dewpoint is climbing and it will be very hot later today. I even left the water bottle at home this a.m. which made me VERY happy. I'm used to chugging and chugging more water than I've ever had in my life to aid in the recovery process. I've got to deal w/granddaughter this a.m. and getting her to daycare so today's my first day to drive in carpool lane across town. I'm a bit apprehensive about it, but I shall prevail.

I am surprised my doc said I could swim last Wed. I asked, and he said, 'why not, but just 10 min. per day...see how it goes.' Last nite my granddaughter could NOT leave a pool after just 10 min. so i had to sit another 30 watching her and dragging her (figuratively speaking) out to go home as the sun set. I will probably try another 10 today, but i must be wary of all the little munchkins in the pool. If one of them bops me I'm in big trouble.

It sounds like you were very fit going into surgery, Simplyme (I consider that i was, too, though i have doubts sometimes during this recovery)........ so I would encourage you that since the doc says walking is okay, to not feel you CAN'T do 5 mi. a day but break it up into pieces and you will feel very happy inside knowing that you are still getting your big dose of exercise. Take lots of water if it's hot. And break it up into pieces like I do. I start betwen 6 and 7 a.m. and finish by 8:30 p.m. so it's not like it's all at once. And it's not power walking, but I still feel good knowing i moved my body. Take it a 1/2 mi at a time.

and (walking is my trademark on this site but it moved into the 'more' smilies category, so not so easy to find)...........yes, I'm always walking.....E.

P.S. SimplyMe: when I first walked it took me THIRTY MINUTES to do a half mile. That's how slow I was going my first week home from the castle. And I only walked about 2-3 miles per day that first week. Everyone was saying, sloooowwwww down. But I kept walking. Now, i have gas, cramps and knots sometimes. Then I stop. Chug some water. Wait for it to pass. And walk some more. But it's not for everyone. We all heal differently, that's for sure.

Again, a good healing Wed. to you all.

Yes Elefante is a walking nut ha ha. I have never known anybody to walk as much as her. And i still can't believe she aloud to swim for 10 min. I can't even get in the tub yet to soak. I'm not sure if it cuz i had the cervix out or not. I have to wait until the 17 before any baths. Anyways Elefante sounds like a really great person. It is just great to have such friends on this site. For only they understand what we are going through. Thanks Everyone.

My surgery was July 13 too. I actually stopped in at my office yesterday and worked a couple of hours. No one else knows about the computers, so I had to check on them to make sure they were running o.k. and download an updated virus program.
I am feeling good so I have to make sure I don't overdo it. I have a 20 year old daughter and she helps out but not too much. SHe gives that face when I ask her to do something. My husband is wonderful, but his mom age 91 also lives with us and I hate to ask him to do too much.
It is hard not to vacumn. But I am going to follow that rule and wait until after 6 weeks. My mom is coming on Friday and she will vacumn the main rooms for me.
I had an abd. hyster, cervix removed but kept ovaries.
Anyone else a DES child?

Yes, I'm probably a DES child

Hi, Debbiefej...........when my doc saw my cervix 15 years ago (and i ended up w/cerclage/preterm labor/6 mo. bedrest...don't get me started on a new thread about it) he remarked that i had the weirdest cervix he'd EVER seen and did my mom take DES? I asked my mom and her retort: why do you ask? Well, that was a 'yes' for me. When I got the bad CIN3/CIS I thought, 'mmmmm maybe related to DES?' I don't know.

Law1961 - tis true i will go walking another 4 laps when i finish these posts. It's an obsession for my mind/health. I had the cervix taken out, as that was the precancerous resting place that had my OB worried...along w/the uterus.... so yes i'm so surprised i can go in the pool based on all i've read. I've gone 3 times now since last Wed. for 10 min. each time. So far no problems. I don't swim like a fiend, though. I just gently tread, mostly w/arms. I do not flail my legs around in the pool. I barely move them for fear of ripping something. It feels good, though. I didn't ask about baths, as I don't take 'em....i'm a shower gal.

Now, if i go back to spotting/bleeding, then the pool outings for 10 min. each time will cease pronto.

Good Wed to all. I cannot believe it is Aug. 1. June was shock month of "i'm going to have a hysterectomy" (well, and I found this wonderful website). July was "okay, it's surgery time" and Aug is 'healing continues and back to work just three weeks from today"..........what a summer.

Gemini3: interesting about the bruising. Not many people replied to the new thread I started. Ask that friend sometime if people get banged up when getting positioned for the surgery. That is, I can imagine my arms were flopping and literally, they could drop us on our heads and how would we know? I had a book about having a hysterectomy that I liked/bought and it explained the whole operating room, etc. and aside from the post i read where the one woman walked in the room herself and saw all the people there, i never had the chance to see ANYthing except the room where i changed my clothes and got 'ready' for surgery. So who knows what could have happened to me. That's why i'm curious about it. Like, maybe my arms were just dragging and banging into things. Or maybe they do position them and 'pin' them a certain way but I did not see anything about that anywhere.

Thanks. Have a great day at that pool. Don't jump in!

And my house looks the same. Junk everywhere. It's a mess and i'm trying to just not look. And granddaughter soaked thru her goodnite, thru her shirt and onto the sheet/bed. Lots to wash today. But I'll go slow.
