Jturner81 ! I'm glad you've joined us in your Recovery Thread!

I think you've inadvertently discovered that sitting up, standing, and a longer social engagement don't necessarily agree with a newly post-op body! I went clothes shopping at 12 days PO and had the same thing happen. Yep, just take it easy - not too much too fast.

Jozilyn, you've got a great outlook! As interminable as it seems now, real life will return soon enough. If we live to be in our 80s, this downtime is 2/10ths of 1% in the span of a lifetime.

Regarding outer stimulation, yes - it's best to get clearance, and I'm glad you thought to do so. Depending on what was done during surgery, some doctors want complete pelvic rest because orgasm increases blood flow to the area and it might result in some pain or cramping.

A one-and-done? May have been a hematoma which drained itself which often causes that kind of bleeding event. You might just want to give your doc a heads up through the portal that this happened.

Hi, yes, just one and done. Slight spotting after as expected. Thank you for reply.
Its strange, I was so use to blood happening all the time, a couple of weeks without almost feels like a lifetime ago. So that's positive for sure.

Thanks for the replies ladies!

The incision at my belly button is sore/ uncomfortable. I feel fairly certain that a tiny thread is poking out I assume from the internal stitches. I am putting betadine on twice a day to keep clean and hopefully encourage further healing.

Another day time sleep today and sleeping in most days. Telling myself my body is busy working on the healing while I am snoring away.

Hi ladies, 3 weeks post op and other than a hematoma on my incision I have no complaints. Still waiting on dr to get back to me, I think it’s slightly smaller. Approx 4-5cm in diameter. I’m wearing a compression belt which I feel helps , it’s very supportive. I’ve seen mixed opinions on whether you should massage a hematoma and also whether we should be using warm or cold therapy. Hope you all continue to recover well , before you know it we will all be back to normal. Love to all

Are you using the betadine per your doctor's instructions? If not, get the okay to do so. Some doctors only want us letting warm water running over incisions, not even soap.

My hysterectomy incisions were glued, but with my recent surgery, I could see the stitches. I though the incision was getting encrusted, but after a shower one morning I noticed the "crustiness" was still there, but softer. That's when I realized it was the clipped tops of off-white stitches.

I've also heard of "spitting stitches" before! Those are the ones you don't expect to see because they were stitched underneath and are supposed to dissolve... but the healing layers of skin push them to the surface before they get a chance to.

It sounds like it's reabsorbing and that's good news. I do wish someone at your doctor's office would get back to you...is that too much to ask, yanno?!

Massaging, heat and cold: I'm not sure if massaging a hematoma is a good idea. A hematoma happens when blood pools from larger blood vessels, and massaging could press on whichever blood vessel leaked and reopen it. You want the blood vessel to remain clotted and closed so that it can repair itself. Cold reduces swelling, while heat helps with blood flow. One thing I've read, too, is that anti-inflammatories interfere with clotting, so increasing the blood flow may not be what's needed. Between the two, I'd venture for cold therapy, but my personal preference when I had all the bruising after my recent surgery was to do nothing and let my body handle it all.
