Leaving the cervix with adenomyosis?

Hello, my Dr has recommended a hysterectomy due to probable adenomyosis. My question is, do any of you have advice on leaving the cervix intact? I realize the adenomyosis may also be there and I may still experience some pain but would it be worth it to keep that part intact?? Thanks so much

Re: Leaving the cervix with adenomyosis?

Hi Colleen0524 -

As you probably know, the cervix is simply the neck of the uterus, so likely you have adenomyosis there as well.

If keeping your cervix is something you want to do, ask your doctor about it. Also talk to your doctor about your concerns of losing your cervix with your uterus. Here are articles that may provide information about the cervix in general:

Here are articles on adenomyosis:

Do research, talk to your doctor, and make the best decision for you.

Re: Leaving the cervix with adenomyosis?

Hi

I wanted to chime in here to add to the great information that Marestail provided.

I went into my pre-op appt with the surgeon, thinking I wanted to keep my cervix. After discussion and review of my history with the doctor, I decided to have it removed.

After surgery my doctor told me that there was no way she could have save my cervix it was so scarred due to my failed ablation and adenomyosis.

Certainly talk to your doctor and voice your wishes, just know that your might need to have a plan A and B.

I wish you the best on your surgery day

Re: Leaving the cervix with adenomyosis?

I personally feel very strongly about keeping the cervix but if it has the same issues as your uterus and you'll still have pain from it, that's a choice you'll have to decide. to have this surgery and still continue to have pain doesn't really make much sense and you may decide to have another surgery to remove your cervix at a later time. I feel so strongly about the cervix that I probably would keep it (but mine never caused me pain). do lots of research, get multiple opinions and talk to your dr. good luck with your decision!
