Getting Ready...

Hi everyone..very new here. my hysterectomy is scheduled for this thursday morning sept 17th@ 8:30. Im a little nervous. I've had surgery before, but this is quite different than birthing your own child. Not sure what surgery is actually being done , we are planning for vaginal. Im just wondering how he will decide to do this...is he going to do a laparoscopic to see how much scarring is in my abdomen?
They might have to make an incision on my cersarian scar and go from there. My other question would be...How long is the surgery?
Im a natural worry wort..along with having stress related anxiety attacks. Im hoping this will relieve some of my depression? Anything and everything sets off an emotion.
My doctor says that I should wait to see how I feel after the surgery to see if any further medication is needed.
Has anyone had similar questions or has been through what I have questions on?

Re: Getting Ready...

Hi, I'm actually having surgery in 5 hours. So I understand being nervous and having a breakdown every 5 mins.
I was told my LSH is going to be 2 hours, with an hour in recovery. But who knows.
Good luck to you and I'll see you on the other side

Re: Getting Ready...

I can understand your concerns. I wouldn't like not knowing what to expect either. Have you had your pre-op visit with your dr yet? If not, I think I'd ask a few qestions about what exactly is going to happen. I knew in advance that I was having a tah/bso and about how long the surgery was expected to be ( for me about 2 -21/2 hours ) I also think that since you're having surgery, you should expect to need some pain meds and have a plan for what you're to get to control that.

Best wishes.

Re: Getting Ready...

Thats the bad part Jeanus, I have had pre op. I told him about the scarring and he said he will check for the amount I have to determine the surgery...so for now its vaginal. He wants me to wait and see how I feel after surgery. Might take some of my worrys away....
