Re: pre-op tomorrow

My doctor just answered all the questions I had and had me sign all the paperwork she needed. I did Lupron to shrink fibroids prior to my hysterectomy so she also did a quick internal exam to see if she could tell by feel if it had worked.

I also had to do blood work that day.

Re: pre-op tomorrow

My pre-op with doctor was easy - I had to watch a video (old from the 80's about hysterectomy) and then met with doctor and asked questions. Then I went over to the hospital and they did an EKG, urinalysis, blood draw. Don't be nervous!

Re: pre-op tomorrow

I had my pre-op last Wednesday. Had bloodwork done, met with anesthesiologist. Filled out paperwork. Met with doctor, paid the bill for the surgery and had him fill out FMLA papers. Doctor gave me prescription for antibiotics which I took today. Tomorrow I start the Miralax; 6 daily doses in one afternoon with a bottle of Gatorade. Then I do the fleet enema in the morning. Surgery is Wednesday at 10:45am. Ask any questions about surgery, how long it will take, when you leave the hospital, when you can drive, when your post op appt is, when you can return to normal activities.
good luck!

Re: pre-op tomorrow

Don't get too worked up or they will lecture you about high blood pressure....or maybe that was just me!
Pre-op like everyone else said is easy.
I would suggest to write down everything you want to ask. They seem easy to remember until you sit in the waiting room for an hour then listen to the doctor read forms to you. I had to call the next day and ask questions that I was too bored to remember.
Take care and get some sleep.

Re: pre-op tomorrow

I'm uncertain if to do a complete or do a partial. My uterus is turned to the right causing alot of problems. I've already had surgery in 1991 and they found Endometriosis. I don't want to do something to cause more harm later and then have to have more surgery but I don't want to go crazy dealing with the hormones if I do a complete.

Re: pre-op tomorrow

Hi RBB! Sorry to hear how you are feeling, it can be very overwhelming! Do you have anyone you can take with you to be another set of ears? If not, feel free to write stuff down during the appointment, it can be easy to hit "information overload". You may also be given some handouts which is handy. Alot of us had two "pre-surgery" appointments - one with our doctor and then a separate one at the hospital, where blood work, ECG, exrays etc get done, as well as talking to the nurse and anaesthetist. For both it is great to have questions written down - even the smallest things are fair game. Whatever you need to ask to feel more comfortable and prepared for surgery day.

Usually "partial" refers to leaving your cervix intact, whereas a "complete" removes your full uterus, including cervix. If you have your ovaries removed, that is an oophorectomy....so much terminology, hey? What have your doctors indicated your main medical symptoms are, and why they would recommend having your ovaries removed?

Wishing you all the very best with your decision and your pre-op appointmemt! Keep asking your questions and doing what you need to feel confidant about your final decision!
