Re: Hysterectomy cancelled
On the other hand, as totally disappointing as it is for you, I have to give props to the Anesthesiologist, for not going ahead if he wasn't comfortable. It must have been a very hard choice to make knowing you were sitting in pre-op raring to go. If it was political then that sucks but if he really was worried then I personally would far rather he didn't put my life on the line to prove he could do it.
No comfort to you though as I know what mental prep you have to go through just to show up for surgery!!!!

Re: Hysterectomy cancelled
This is what I was thinking, too. :-( He just could not have gone on and done it if his professional concerns weren't met, and it was the surgeon's job to make sure they were met, to touch base with him ahead of time and say, "This upcoming patient has von Willibrands. What information do you need to allay any concerns you have?" A big part of any doctor's job is making sure the whole team is on the same page, especially when someone's health and safety is on the line.
It's just such a shame to be caught up in the middle of that sort of thing. People have to upend their lives to prepare for these sorts of procedures, take time off, arrange childcare, etc. not to mention psyching themselves up for it. Two doctors' power struggles don't matter worth a hill of beans compared to that.
Kallypso, I can't wait until you can post in the post-op boards. That will be a great day for you!

Kallypso -
I know you are frustrated , but I agree with (((wandatd))) - things happen for a reason. It may only become clear to you further down the road.
The anesthesiologist has to make a call that he is comfortable with, as he is your caretaker. So this was not the right doctor for you. They will find the right doctor, and you will be able to have your hysterectomy.
Deep breath and in there. We are all behind you.

I'm so sorry you have had to experience this. I can't imagine how frustrated you must be! Big hugs to you. I want to encourage you to voice your feelings about this to your surgeon so he clearly understands how important it is to get his team prepped well before you go in for surgery. Hopefully he will be more diligent next time, and hopefully he will put you on the urgent list so you can get this done quickly.

Hysterectomy cancelled
I would like to thank you all for your support and understanding. It truly means the world to me.
Although I am still very discouraged (getting less and less everyday) I am trying to she the bight side of things. It will take some serious figuring out, once we know my new surgery date. I am sure that it will all work out in the end. I am having a hard time joining into discussions on here, as I am feeling a little cheated. I imagine that will improve when my surgery is re-booked.
I have a hematology appt on the 3rd of July and my gyno appt on the 11, should know more after that.
Sadly, my endo and adeno pain has kicked into high gear. Dr prescribed me tramacet, which I can say does absolutely nothing. The t3's were working better and they eeeent doing a whole lot

Re: Hysterectomy cancelled
I understand I lived under my heating pad, even getting permission to take them into my hospital room and use before and after surg. Can you ask your gyn to put you on a cancellation list ? I did and got a call to get in sooner, which made me able to get squeezed in sooner. I was miserable. And barely made it into surg before my period was due to start.

Re: Hysterectomy cancelled
I'm so very sorry to hear of this very disappointing news. How very frustrating, disheartening, and alarming all at the same time.
However, in light of the anesthesiologist "freaking out," I'd be very leery of ANY one working on me that was even remotely nervous. That might have compound the situation if not invite mistakes or further complications.
HUGE hugs being sent your way!!!!
Tina
