Bad back Pain

I am 3 weeks post op, have been feeling okay, but the past few days I am having bad lower/middle back pain.. anyone else? Is this normal?

It is normal according to my doctors. You are subconsciously tightening your back muscles to protect your tummy. They told me to do stretching exercises for my back and to alternate moist heat and ice on my back. Heal well and know that it gets better!

I think it is fairly common and can be caused by a number of different things. Make sure you are walking some several times throughout the day. Tjis will keep your body from getting stiff and sore. If the pain becomes severe or doesnt seem to be going away, you may want to give your a call just to make sure it isnt something that needs to be addressed.

Hi! So many things can cause lower back pain, including mere coincidence that it is happening during your recovery. Here are some things to consider:

1) Do you have a history of back problems? Lower back is a prime area for most people; that is where I herniated 2 discs back in 2005, so I was not surprised that the stress of the past month aggravates my existing problem.

2) How old are you? I am mid-50's and it is so easy for parts of me to get sore, stiff, etc if I sit, stand or sleep too long in an unfamiliar position or place. Poor sleep on a motel bed can put a real damper on vacation plans, and the hospital bed was no picnic, either. I almost thought I had kidney failure on the third day, till I realized the pain in that area was from the bed I'd been using/

3) Are you finding really comfortable positions to sleep or sit in your own home? Back support is more important than ever, so notice what position you are in and whether your back is feeling good for at least part of the time you are there.

4) Are you changing position often? I try to not sleep or sit too long in one position even if it is comfortable. I notice that pain usually starts when I 'zone out' and stay in the same position too long.
