7 days post total hysterectomy & BSO: vagina still very lubricated?

So I am seven days postop from removal of uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and ovaries. This month marks the two-year anniversary of my going into menopause. During those two years, the only side effects I had were hot flashes and only once in a while. What surprised me, and here’s the really personal part, was how I was always very well lubricated, never ever dry. When my surgeon told me that I should have a hysterectomy, it was because even though I was in full-blown menopause, my cells were still dividing, my endometrial lining was still sloughing off as if I was not in menopause. So I assumed that once everything was removed, I would start being as dry as a desert. But ever since the surgery a week ago, I’m still very very wet down there. Very moist and lubricated. I’m just wondering how? There’s nothing there! I’m definitely going to mention this to my doctor in my appointment next week but I’m just wondering if anyone has had the same thing happen.

Your body has stores of estrogen to use in emergencies, plus there are other sources, including adrenal glands and fat cells. It could be that your body is still using what it has, or that the other sources are producing enough to help with that. Also, don't overlook the fact that a vaginal discharge is very common post-op as the body is healing - fluids transport the needed "repair tools" to our surgical wounds and also flush out the debris.

If you do get the vaginal dryness and other symptoms of surgical menopause, it may not be immediate. There's a current active thread from a member asking about Surgical Menopause and Estradiol Levels (07/2021). There've been some great replies from some of our Sisters who didn't have symptoms right away: 2-3 months all the way out to 2 years.
