Post Hysterectomy Hacks for JP tubes and drains (Jackson Pratt Closed Suction)

If you have a JP Tube/Drain, I figured out a few small hacks that make life MUCH easier and provide privacy and independence.

Materials Needed:
  • Binder
    Large Safety Pin/Diaper Pin
    Command Hook

Restroom:
1) Use the LARGE safety and put it through the label/tag of the JP Tube. DO NOT put the pin through the tube or drain. If you don't have a tag, you could use masking tape to make a tag and use that with the pin.
2) Pin the the tube to your binder. When you use the restroom, you don't have to fiddle with the tube, just pull down your buttons and go. The binder holds the tube in place.

Shower:
1) Place a command hook on the side of the shower at the level of your JP Tube. My tube is on the right so, my hook is on the right.
2) enter the shower and hang your tube on the hook so you have both hands and privacy to showering.
3) Just be careful not to move to quickly or forget about the tube and pull it.

Dressing:
1) Put on your binder first and pin your tube.
2) Dress as usual.

Best wishes and good luck!
