post op appointment

Hello Ladies!
Had my two week post op appointment on 5/20. Everything looked fine. Staples removed. ahhh.... No internal done (are scootch reports only applicable if the doc does in internal, or do they apply when you have to lie down on the table, too?) I'm such an amateur.
I've been really worried about how bad and how soon menopause symptoms will strike. So far, the only one I've experienced is getting hot at night periodically. My gyn/onc said whatever I'm experiencing now will be it. Estridiol patch was prescribed and I had it filled, but have not used yet. She advised not to use unless needed.
Great news as she says I only need three rounds of chemo. All biopsies were negative, including pelvic and diaphragm wash. (ovarian cyst had ruptured during laparoscopy which had cancer cells in it when diagnosed). She states in Italy, and other coutries, they don't give chemo for this (stage IC). Recently, studies indicate the same outcomes for this stage and three rounds of chemo, instead of six.
First round to start 6/3.
My mom had died of colon ca with mets to her liver. My aunt had endometrial ca. My grandmother had breast ca. She will refer me to a genetics specialist at some point soon due to the connection. I will get a colonoscopy and mammogram sooner than later.
Take care, everyone, and I hope all is well.

s Mary

Yeap, that sure is the way to go. Zap that early stage ovarian cancer with three rounds of taxol and carboplatin. Should only take you about a month and a half.
Quite a few of us can share our taxol and carbo tips.
It really does seem you need the genetic counseling. Are you aware of the web site FORCE. Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered. You should check it out.
Best wishes with the colonoscopy and mammogram.

Hi Mary,
Great news on the chemo. I was given a choice of not doing chemo or having 3 treatments. I decided I didn't want to take the risk and opted to blast any nasty little cells left. I think you will find it gives you peace of mind.

s and best of luck.

I shared my first two chemo treatments with a woman who had Stage I ovarian cancer, and she was also undergoing the three blasts of Taxol and Carboplatin. It's probably worthwhile. Blast those little suckers into space!

I think I might have mentioned this, but the Estriodol patch made me incredibly nauseated -- to the point where I thought I was going to throw up (which I never, ever do). So I only used it one day. It may not affect you the same way, though.

My question to people who have been through this: How long do the hot flashes last? Years? Months? What happens after? Once they stop, is that basically it? People always talk about "going through menopause," which always sounded ominous. But is this all it is?

Mary-
1st the scootch question. I think anytime you have to see a MD and lay on paper you qualify for a scootch report.

Good Luck with your chemo. The time will go fast & all those pesky cancer cells will be demolished.

Keep in touch

I'm not too sure about the menopause symptoms I just had the hot flashes at night also, but now I'm on premarin, so no more hot flashes for me, but I remember having them right after my initial hyst.

Congrats on the three rounds, I agree with Shepherdpal having these three rounds will surely give you peace of mind.

Good luck.

's and ers to you....
