You are likely spending the last few days (or hours!) before your hysterectomy getting everything in order. There’s so much to do! Get things organized at work, at home, the family, and yourself. There are things to clean, to buy, to cook, to freeze, and to pack for the hospital. Here are some articles to help you get everything in order: 10 Essentials to Pack for Hospital

10 Tips for Preparing for Your Hysterectomy
Do what you’re able, but try not to stress about getting everything just the way you want it. There comes a point where you have to let it go and know everything will work out all right. It’s important to spend some of your preparing time by preparing yourself physically and emotionally. You need to sleep, drink lots of water, clear your mind, and spend time with your family. Being well rested and happy helps put you on the best foot for your recovery.

Thank you for the kind words and support. I've been all over the place emotionally, and today has just been a rough day. Probably because the surgery is getting closer. The prayers and encouragement are very much appreciated!

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jul 21, 2019
Hi!
My name is Jen. Having surgery Thursday 7/25. Very anxious about recovery but have a good support system in place the first two weeks. Glad I found this website as it will be nice to share the journey with others going through the same situation. Good luck to all of you in the same boat!

I would stay overnight if they would let me. Is there a chance you will go home with a catheter? I stayed overnight and at 6 am I had the voiding test. I passed! I didn’t strain or try to pee but just let it trickle out until it was enough to pass. Make sure the anesthesiologist knows you are concerned with possible gas left in your tummy and also to make sure you don’t wake up in pain. My procedures are 10 days past and I’m feeling quite good. Followed all doc’s orders. Take your stool softeners and get some milk of magnesium just in case. It worked fantastic for me. Best of luck to you!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jul 21, 2019
all dear sisters,
So glad you all found this site. I am sure it will be as helpful to you as it was for me. Many of our sweet Hostesses have given you great links to information that will help this week prepping and in the weeks of recovery coming up. Spend some of the nervous energy reading.
I understand about being nervous about recovery. The first couple of weeks were the hardest for me, so if you have support for that time please use it. Sounds like some of you have helpful kids, use them also. Even though it is important to do a little walking(5 min) every hour, someone to fetch things, do things that mean standing for longer periods of time, or running to get something you forgot will help. During the first week or so keeping things quiet down there can help reduce the inflammation. Your body will help you know what the proper mix of walking and resting should be. Remember to listen to it.
You all have my good thoughts and prayers.
Sister Hugs,
Anndy

Our time today has come to an end - our Pre-Op Open House Chat Thread is now closed. Thank you to all our members who attended as we support one another - women helping women.
The staff of HysterSisters is sending you hugs for the best outcome for your hysterectomy.
As you wait for your scheduled surgery, if you have more questions, please start a new thread discussion here in Pre-op hysterectomy forum area.
Then, after your surgery, there will be a specially created thread for our members who have surgery this week. Look for it in the Post-op Hysterectomy Recovery forum - specifically the Hysterectomy Recover Reports forum with dates matching your surgery date. You will find your surgery sisters there.
