Your thoughts please?!

Hi all. My surgery is on Monday. (TAH & BSO, right side Ovarian Tumour)

I would like to ask you Post-OP ladies your thoughts on my being able to go away (Not driving) on the 27th August. This will be just under a 2 hour drive.

I know everyones recovery varies. Some thoughts on how soon you travelled would be greatfully received.

My best wishes to you all.

LB.

You may want to wait and see how you are feeling - you should also ask your doctor if you are cleared to travel.

At 2-3 weeks I could only sit in the car for very short periods of time. If you do travel bring along a pillow to cushion your tummy from the seat belt and to absorb the bumps. Stop occasionally to walk and stretch your legs - you have to be careful about blood clots after surgery.

Your thoughts please?!

Hi LB,

I had a TAH on 7/2...It took 4.5 hours as I had adhesions, my ovaries removed and additional bowel work. I am just 5 weeks.

For me, even the short car ride to see my doctor at 1.5 weeks was sheer torture. Even now I will not go far. I am just too tired and still feel a large amount of pain.

When I do have to go somewhere I use a pillow over my belly which does help.

Probably you'll know better what is right for you when you are closer to the time. Good luck on your decision, and the best of luck on monday with surgery! I will keep you in my prayers.

Your thoughts please?!

Hi - my surgery was performed at the regional Medical University which is approximately 4 hours from my home.

Of course I traveled the 4 hours to come home at 7 days post-op. I came home with a catheter and really the only "pain" I had was from being able to get comfortable with the catheter. The actual abdomen pain was minimal and only when bumpy road conditions prevailed. My pillow was my friend.

I returned the 4 hours to Indianapolis for my 2 week visit and it was a piece of cake. Still had the catheter, but it didn't bother me and I rode very comfortably.

I did still need a pillow for my tummy - just sort of as a crutch to make me feel more secure I think.

I would say you will be comfortable and able to take a 2 hour trip. You may be a little tired afterwards, but surely you can rest/recovery there as well as you could at home.

Go for it and have a blast!

Of course everyone is different so this is just my experience. You should speak to your doctor to be sure it's OK for you!

LynnMary and Sarah. Thanks for advice. I think maybe I'm kdding myself I'm going to get over this sooner than is possible!

The thing is, once I am there, I can relax and take in the sea air. I assure you I will only do what my Doctor advises me to do though!

Best wishes.

Tana - Thank you. That's very reassuring. You seem to be coping very well.

Well done!
