Heart murmur just discovered

I just visited my new primary care doctor. Upon checking my heart, she told me I have a heart murmur. She was surprised I didn't know. My heart was checked a couple of months ago when all my "issues" began. I didn't have a murmur then.
I'm glad I found out before the surgery. I'll have an heart ultrasound tomorrow and find out what exactly it is.
Has anyone experienced this at perimenopause/menopause?
Input appreciated ...I'm a little scared 😳

Re: Heart murmur just discovered

Springertz,

Wow, what a surprise! You know about it now so now you can take care of things. Good luck with the ultrasound tomorrow--hopefully everything is fine.
Keep us posted.

I thought I had everything perimenopause could offer but no murmur. Maybe someone will come along with some experience.

Re: Heart murmur just discovered

Springertz,
Are you anemic, by any chance? I have recently developed a murmur secondary to severe anemia.

It's good that you know now, before your surgery. Best of luck!

They thought I was anemic because many of my symptoms pointed in that direction. Next they will be checking thyroid and hormones.
Did you have symptoms with your murmur? I am having many symptoms😝
Ill find out more tomorrow , I hope. The heart ultrasound should be able to detect the type of murmur I have. Do you know the type of murmur you had? Thanks for your input

Re: Heart murmur just discovered

I am nowhere near menopause (age 26) but I was born with an aortic heart murmur which has gotten bigger over the years. It was checked out for surgery (mine is on Wednesday) with an EKG and an echo (u/s) and everything came back fine. I too, had symptoms but the murmur was still benign. Apparently you can have a bunch of symptoms from a murmur without it being a real problem for your heart. I hope everything checks out for you like it did for me. Good luck to you!

Me too. My murmur was found 3 years ago when I was having my gallbladder removed. I never knew I had it. No one seems concerned so I guess mine is minor.

Re: Heart murmur just discovered

Well, I had my echo today and the tech told me I'd get results from doc on Monday. She said not to worry cuz it was ok. Yay I guess I'll find out what type it is then.
I had my heart checked 6 wks ago when all this stuff started and no murmur. In that time , I have had severe pressure, pain in pelvis , weakness in legs and arms, cold feet and hands and a fibroid "falling" down from my cervix out of my vagina!! Severe fatigue and body weakness follows and scary cognitive issues within the last 3 wks.
Heart murmur this week!!! It just seems to be connected. I guess I'll have my answers in the next few weeks thanks for your support! I'll keep everyone posted!
