Ugh, Doctors!!!!
So, after ten months!! of research and going from here to there, I resolved(?) to needing a TVH for what I believed was adeno/endo. I have had lower back pain that has surrounded my period for YEARS, I tell you, YEARS, and have seen acupunturists, physiatrists, physical therapists and chiropractors. Always, relief for two weeks, and unbearable pain for two. I have tried Yoga, Pilates, walking. losing weight, all of it....
Two months ago my OB put me on BC pills to lessen my torrential period (which worked, BTW) but for some reason, exacerbated my backache, so now it hurts 90% of the time.
So today, I go to my OB and ask her for an MRI to get the best diagnosis, I'd rather KNOW there is adeno before I remove an organ, and then HOPE that relieves the pain. She indicated that she thought the pain was in my back and not from my uterus...She decided this because during a pelvic, she pushed on my uterus and I didn't hit the ceiling. Well, I have to tell you, that after years of daily pain, my threshold is pretty high.
So now I am on my way BACK to the physiatrist, and have requested an MRI on my BACK only to determine (for myself) if there is no spinal involvment, other than the BIG SWOLLEN UTERUS on a monthly basis.
This is so frustrating, exhausting....upsetting. I have not slept through the night for weeks.
Here's my question for you ladies....Has anyone else had to self-diagnose? My dr. will do a hysto in a heartbeat, she'll put me on Lupron, she'll do whatever I ask (except do a pelvic MRI) Is there anyone who has current studies sited that I can get to her? Remember, she has practically ruled out adeno since I didn't jump when she pushed. Has anyone had an external Fibroid?
THanks for your help!!!

HI
From reading your post I saw that you might have a TVH for adeno/endo.
Since she has ruled out adeno because you didn't jump through the roof.... Has she ruled out endometriosis???
I was told the only accurate way to know if a woman has endo is through a laproscopy. It is inserted through the belly button and gives them a look at the outside of the uterus and other organs where the endo likes to live.
I suffered from terrrible lower back pain for years and was always told I was fine by my doctor. When I mentioned the back pain to my GYN he was the one that said a sign of endo is lower back pain.
Once a laproscopy was finally performed on me, there it was, I was loaded with endo and it cannot be found with ultrasounds, MRI's etc:
Might be worth talking to your doctor about.
Many 's and hopefully less pain

Ugh, Doctors!!!!
I actually did have a lap about 8 years ago,the doc found "something" on the outside of my uterus, but this doc said that since the pill relieved my heavy bleeding and did nothing for my back pain (it acutally increased my sensitivity) that they were probably not related, and did not believe another lap would be helpful.
UGH!!

Dear MarlaJoy:
Welcome to HysterSisters
Here is a link to the Endo/Adeno section of our Resources Directory: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/lin...n=browse&cid=6
Have you had a 2nd or 3rd opinion from a gyn?? It certainly seems that the cyclical nature of your symptoms would point to a diagnosis that is gynecological in nature.
I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. I am sending huge cyberhugs

HI again Marla,
I would definently get another opinion from a GYN. Alot can happen in 8 years. They all have such a different outlook on treating endo.
Estrogen feeds endometriosis and causes it to be more active. That might explain why the BCP pill lessened your bleeding, but made the back pain worse. BCP's have high levels of estrogen, so if your back was hurting worse on them and IF you have endo, then the extra estrogen you were getting while on the pill would cause the endo to "become more active" and might explain why your back hurt worse.
Just my opinion, but I see the relatioship and would seek another opinion.
Lots of 's

Thanks for all your comments. Actually, I have an MRI (for my spine only) scheduled with my PCP next Thursday, which hoop I jumped through 11 years ago(!!!!) I'll have the two compared and assuming they are the same, I will determine that the back pain is from endo/adeno. I think you are probably right about the pill exacerbating my endo as well.
Now I'm thinking I will have my GYN do another LAP, since if she does a TVH, she won't see to clear any endo on my back, if it's there. I'm planning on keeping my ovaries, so the endo would stay active until it's removed....
Unfortunately (?) my OB came HIGHLY recommended (we live in a small town) and I have pretty restrictive insurance that limits the docs that can treat me without a fight, and although she is being conservative, I think she'll be as agressive as I ask her to be (short of an MRI for my uterus!)
UGH!!
