Saw the doctor today.

I had my schedule ultrasound and because they couldn't find the left ovary, ended up with a vaginal ultrasound, after that I saw the doctor.

The scan had shown that I have 3 small fibroids and that my endometrial lining was 10.5 mm despite having my last period only last week. I had a endrometrial biopsy at my last appointment which came back normal but then that was expected as I had a rollerball ablation in August 2004.

The doctor has advised that I wait 3 months and schedule another ultrasound as 10.5mm is thicker than they would like.

As I had been unsure of my dates I had obtained my notes from my previous doctor. At my last scan in Feb 2006, my endometrial lining was 5mm thick, so in effect the lining has double in 18 months. My current doctor says it could be the fact that I had a roller ball ablation which is not as effective as other types of ablation. She also said that I would not understand my notes which I found very condescending to say the least.

The reason I had gone to the Doctor was because I have been perimenopausal since at least March 2002 ( probably a lot earlier as I have been having hot flashes since 2000). I had my last period in Jan 2007 which seemed to indicate I was in menopause. Then early August, I had cramps, spotting and then a slight flow for one day followed by 4 more days of spotting. I have since then had another period withregular bouts of cramps (most days) since the beginning of August.

Like everyone here, I have looked up info on the internet and everywhere it seems to indicate that a thickness more than 5mm in perimenopause or menopause should be investigated further.

Do you think I should wait 3 months or should I seek a 2nd opionon? Anyone else with similar symptoms?

Saw the doctor today.

Wow, I'd definitely get a second opinion. What is she recommending that you do?

You're probably very educated on this whole subject ( like we all do when we have had problems ) so to treat you that way saying you wouldn't
understand was ignorant.

Aren't you glad we have the internet as a resource at our fingertips? Think back and 15 years ago, all this wouldn't have been possible.

Good luck!

It's frustrating, isn't it? Sometimes I can't believe how little information some doctors think we need to know about our own bodies.

I am in the process of "exploring other options" in regards to doctors because my doctor acted pretty much like yours. I think you should do so as well. I agree with you that the thickness needs to be checked into further.

I'll be hoping you'll find a doctor who wants to work WITH you in the near future.

Hi Jjmb,

I agree with getting a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion if need be. I got two opinions myself about how to proceed with my fibroids and it was the *best* 2nd opinion I could have ever had. Drs give us options... and we make the final decision when it comes to our bodies. Gathering as much information as you can - even if it means a 2nd opinion - can only help you in the long run. So...I say go for it!!

Sending best wishes~

2nd opinion?

should it be a Oncology Gynae or just a normal gynae? Do you need to be referred to a Oncology Doctor?

no more worrying

Contacted a local office with a good rep and the repeat ultrasound at 3 months is normal procedure.
