Stents in Ureters
Ladies:
Did anyone have stents placed in their ureters during surgery? Is this what always happens, or am I special ? Would this prolong the time the catheter is in?
Thanks,
Kathy

Stents in Ureters
Hi Kathy,
I am off to see the urologist to discuss his part in my hysto. He will put the stents to protect the ureters too. I understand this is standard prcedure. I may have to have colo-rectal guy in the room too depending on what barium enema shows. Gee, lets have a party! Oh wait, I"ll be passed out. Wait, like I said let's have a party! I've been passed out during some of my best parties, or so I'm told Just kidding, ladies.

Stents in Ureters
G'Day SMS Kathy,
I had stents put in my ureters, the Doctors described them to be like mini inflatable type "ballons" that they put in the ureters so they 1: could tell where the ureters where during the surgery & 2: so they wouldn't nick them as normally they lay flat & apparently can be obsucred whilst they are working.
After surgery I asked my doctors did they put the stents in the answer was: "yes & we removed them just prior to finishing"....
I had the catherta in for just over 30 or so hours which once I figured out how to use it....Ummm when you come out of the op, things feel odd when you are groggy from the anaesethic.
I was in hospital for 5 days the only drama once the catherta was removed was the fact that I had to get up to go to the toilet to pee, the catherta was great I could drink all I wanted with out worrying about getting up to pee...the catherta was a godsend I thought...would be handy when you go out to parties drinking you wouldn't have to worry about the toilet...
I understand the stent deal is fairly normal...well at least here in Australia...my doctor assured me that it was normal practice....
cheers Vegemite

Stents in Ureters
Thanks, ladies! Yet again, you prove more informative than the medical community! And, you even make the catheter sound pleasant
