How much time should dh take off??

Now that this is finally set in motion I have to make ALL the plans and decisions.

So since my surgery date is May 2nd, and I was told I would be in the hospital minimum of 3 days putting my release at Thursday. Since dh is a manager of a restaurant, he may have problems taking that entire weekend off since its mother's day weekend. I really am not in the mood to fight with him on this issue and pointing out that they cannot MAKE him work. (If I fight on this issue he will not be the best person to be home taking care of me if you know what I mean LOL)

So he is thinking of taking the first 4 days off and maybe a day or two the next week. We have a 3y/o dd and a 9 y/o dd and I have a very good dependable friend to help. Will this be enough help to recover from a TAH, or should I demand that dh take the entire 2 weeks off??

How much time should dh take off??

Since your surgery is on a Monday, and your DH is taking a week off, he will be able to spend the first 5 days with you full time, then part of the day over the holiday weekend.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to gauge how you are feeling on Thursday afternoon or Friday and if you feel that you would be better off with your DH there by your side, you could interject with your feelings. As long as you have someone dependable to help with the children, you won't be totally alone during that time.

My DH has scheduled 1 week off of work for my procedure, however his time has to be Monday through Friday because as with your husband, mine is a maintance manager at a high end retail store and his boss insists that he be in attendance over the weekends. He also has to be there for most of the time that the selling floor is open to the public to ensure that there are no problems that might arise unattended.

If by Friday I don't feel that I can handle being alone for 12 hours, my husband is going to hire a babysitter from our neighborhood to sit with me. Don't I feel silly at 43 making arrangements for a sitter?

I hope everything works out for you! Keep us posted.

How much time should dh take off??

My LAVH is scheduled for April 5 (my 3rd wedding anniversary) and my sweet dh is taking 5 days off...unfortunately, he goes back to work on 12 hour shifts. But I have a15 y/o son and 11 y/o daughter who are very self-sufficient and will be more than enough help. I've got lots of family and friend who have offered to help out too. I was only going to take 2 weeks off of work but my wonderful boss told me he doesn't want to see me for 3 weeks (all paid!). I'm still stressing about driving kids around the second week and such, but it will work itself out.
I suggest you take the neighbor up on the "babysitting". I've heard that your energy level is pretty much nil for a while.
Good luck and take care

You're not going to be bedridden when you get home, but you are probably going to be very tired for at least the first week or so. If it was just you at home I'd say don't worry about DH taking time off, but because of the 3 y/o you're going to need a responsible adult with you to keep him/her out of trouble. If you have someone to care for the kids while you're in the hospital, you'd be better off if he works most of the time you're there so he'll be home to look after the kids.

My grandson was 9 months old the day I had surgery and by 4 weeks I might have been ok with him (I take care of him while DD works) but the lifting is a big issue. (NO NO). Take all the help you can get from your friend.

s and best wishes.
