home with Cath?

Dr. told me it was a possibility I would be sent home with a Cath if my bladder decides to rebel after surgery.

How many of you who have had the bladder tack were sent home with a cath?

home with Cath?

I didn't have a cath when I came home but was shown how to self cath at the hospital because my bladder just didn't want to cooperate.

My dr had told me this was a possibility and I had to self cath for two weeks after surgery and chart it so I could show him how it was going.

Not everyone has a cath and you could be one of the lucky ones whose bladder works perfectly.

Sending and best wishes that all goes well!!

home with Cath?

I came home with a suprapubic catheter for three days. My DR requires a voiding test prior to catheter removal. The patient has to void greater than 150 cc with less than 50 cc residual before she will remove. She feels that improves the success rate and reduces infections. I can't say it felt great, but I didn't require any pain meds while the catheter was in.

My biggest problem was that the hospital couldn't seem to find a leg bag for it, so I ended up coming home with the big bag which was a hassle. Every time it was bumped a little jolt went through my bladder so I was happy to have it out. All in all, no big deal.

Good luck with your surgery.

home with Cath?

I went home with one and as silly as this sounds I got totally freaked when my Dr said I had too. It wasn't to bad I only needed it for 2 days at home. Make sure the tube has slack and have the nurse show you how to manage it. I am 5 1/2 weeks post-op and am feeling great..It is just a short time and well worth the oppertunity to go home and sleep in your own bed!

home with Cath?

I'm home (second day) my discharge was delayed due to inability to pass urine poast abd hyst and burch procedure. No big deal, not like I am going out in public anyhow. It will come out thurs morning, (8 days post) and I will go to dr office for a post residual. It is a small price to pay to be able to sleep through the night without getting up all the time once I have healed, and to be able to sneeze and not pee my pants will be relief.

home with Cath?

I came home with a cath. after a LAVH with A&P repairs and bladder tack. My bladder was knicked during surgery. It stayed in 9 days counting the 4 days I was in the hospital. It did not hurt at all, just aggravating. I had the big bag which I used the first couple of days at home. I felt wimpy so I didn't change it. It was aggravating toting it around. After I started perking up I switched to the leg bag during the day. It was much easier getting around with it.

I was really worried about the cath before surgery. In hindsight, it was not a big deal.

home with Cath?

I was sent home with a cath. Honestly, I was more humilated than anything. It didn't hurt, it was okay to work around it. But I just wanted out. I had to have it in for a week. It took me about 30 minutes to pee once it was out. My DR told me that it just take some people long. It just depends on how much work they had to do with your bladder. I never thought I'd be so excited to pee on my own. My 75 year old dad, would call me daily to see if I was 'peeing' okay. We even named the bag to Pennelopeee. You got to have humor in it.
