Timeline Questions
Last Thursday, I went to the GYN to get the results of a pelvic sonogram (and I thought a potential referral to a Urologist for bladder issues). Surprisingly, I have been diagnosed with suspected Adenomyosis. After discussing the options with the dr., we both agreed that removing my uterus would be the best option. He wrote down my options and told me that his scheduler would call me this week to make arrangements if I still wanted the surgery.
I spent all weekend researching Adenomyosis, on this site and others, and learned that I have soooo many of the symptoms (bladder issues, heavy periods, painful intercourse, leg pain, etc.)and I feel good about my decision.
In my typical Type A fashion, I have created a list of things to ask. But I still have questions that I am hoping you can help with.
What is the timeline? How long was it between your diagnosis and surgery date? I know each is different I am just trying to get an idea. What are the steps? I know the scheduler calls but then what? What sequence is the pre-op blood work, bowel cleanse, pre-op meeting with the dr.? Do I have to request a mtg with the dr or is that automatic?
Thanks for sharing your stories. THey have helped so much.

Re: Timeline Questions
After I learned of my need for a hyst, everything went pretty quickly. I could have had surgery in a matter of a few days but had things that I wanted to do first ( a fun trip ). But since I had precancer, surgery was scheduled pretty quickly - about 2 weeks. I actually set up the date and pre-op office visit at the drs the day we decided that surgery was needed. My pre-op visit at the drs and hospital was the day before my surgery. I didn't have an at home bowel prep but was given an enema at the hospital the day of surgery.
I think that you probably should learn what you need to do when you hear from the scheduler. If not, don't hesitate to call your dr and ask.
I find that making a list of my questions is a big help - that way I don't forget any!
Best wishes.

Re: Timeline Questions
When I decided on the hysterectomy it was pretty quick afterwards that I had the surgery. Within a couple of weeks.(dr was willing to do it next day) I picked the date but I picked it a couple of weeks in advance so I could nail down things at work and at home. Try to give yourself at least two weeks to prepare for the surgery, this way you can get things done at home and at work if you work.
Here is how things happened for me.
Day of appt with dr sat down with pre op nurse to go over medical history. She gave me dates available for surgery.
Left and went home to discuss dates with hubby and work and then called scheduler back with date I chose.
The scheduler put me in for the date I chose.
I was given a script for bloodwork to be done 10 days before the surgery (this was given to me during that initial visit that it was decided I needed the surgery)
I went and had my bloodwork done.
I contacted my insurance to make sure there were no surprises
Two days before the surgery I was called by the nurse at the hospital and was asked pre op questions about health and allergies.
Day before surgery I did bowel prep which was an enema and went on a plain basic diet of soup/popsicles/jello.
Day before surgery I called hospital for time of arrival and surgery.
Day of surgery I had nothing to eat or drink
Arrived at hospital for scheduled time (2hrs before surgery time)
Was prepped and given instructions on what to do and what was about to be done.
Was visited by dr right before surgery
Was visited by anthesia
Was wheeled out of waiting at exactly 12:15p and was in OR and under by 12:30p. Right on time.
Was wheeled to my room at around 6p
Given nothing to eat but broth and jello
Day two in hospital I was taken off of all IV's/cath/etc... and was doing everything on my own/bathing/brushing teeth/bathroom/eating solid foods
Day three I was released from hospital.
Called dr office and made follow up appt for two days after release from hospital.
Went to see dr. Made another appt.
Been seeing dr weekly since surgery and now will go two weeks between visits and will see him now after thanksgiving for possible release back to work. (will be 4 weeks post op at that point)
Hope this timeline helps.

Re: Timeline Questions
I am finishing up my bowel prep now. I took two tablets this morning, waited for them to work, and then had to drink several glasses of prep material over the next hour and half or so (all the items came together in a box from the pharmacy). If you have this type of bowel prep to do at home, ask your doc if you can drink any other liquids between doses of the prep liquid, and what to do if the stuff makes you feel like vomiting. The last dose or two were hard to get down. Stay close to a bathroom.
I started a liquid diet last night (6 p.m.) took the prep this morning/afternoon, and then go back to liquids until midnight, and report to the hospital for surgery at 6 tomorrow morning.
Hope everything turns out well.
