Going Home with Catheter

I need support sisters.. This is going to happen to me ! I Am embarassed about the whole thing. I am having TVH,rectocele and cystocele repairs. My Dr. Delivered all 3 of my 10lb babies,as well as my episotomy's x3....Now at 45 I suffer from prolapse..The surgery is repair, removing thin walls, sewing in tape and strenthen the muscles,ligaments. Clean up episotomy scars.There will be catheter when I come home. I swell after surgery,esp. down there !!
I am concerened about how I will be after surgery..How the tape will heal,,and feel . Will this help my weak lower back? Will I be able to walk and even run again ?...Prolapse has really slowed me down . Now TVH... I am keeping Ovaries,,I hope I will be better.. Please share your experence. Thank you

I was lucky that my catheter came out the next day instead of coming home with it like the doctor thought would happen. I did have a bad prolapse and had a bladder tuck and a bladder sling. The uterus was larger than was thought. My bad lower back ache has not gone away that I had before surgery. I also kept my ovaries and they are working. It took a good 6 weeks before all bleeding and spotting stopped. Its been 2 1/2 months now and I haven't had any problems. My last exam showed a small spot where the doctor applied silver nitrate. I go back again in 5 months.

I know how much you worry beforehand but after it is over, you will feel so much better. It feels so good to be able to sneeze, laugh, cough without leakage. It feels so good not to worry about a major downpour. It feels great to walk past that feminine hygiene aisle and not buy.

I went home with a catheter because of a bladder repair and a 2nd surgery to repair an injured ureter. I had the catheter for 3 weeks and the stent in my ureter for 5 weeks. My catheter was somewhat painful, because the area was so irritated and I did have several UTI's while healing over the 5 weeks. I chose not to go out with my catheter because sitting flat was tough and the cath. seemed to tug down and hurt. I kind of sat with my bum up on one side! LOL So, it was best for me to stay home and stay in my pj's. It was a relief when that catheter was finally out. There definitely was some burning when they took it out, but I had the same during a cystogram and the cystoscopy to remove the stent as well. It did take several days before I had my total bladder sensation back though. I kept thinking I had to pee every 5 minutes, very strange. I had opiate suppositories to use to help with the bladder spasms, which were very uncomfortable and made me nauseous as well. Overall, though, my bladder and ureter healed very quickly with the cath in place and I don't regret them leaving it in a bit longer to make sure everything was healed properly with no risk of fistulas etc. So, going home with a cath is inconvenient but it is do-able. You're going to be just fine! When my grown sons came to dinner, I would laugh and say, Oh I've got to go pee!. Then I'd sit there and smile. They'd be, Mom that is so gross! But then, they were very interested in how the whole thing worked and needed to see my abdominal scar etc. It all terrified them, but they still needed to know what was happening!
