8 days to go and have a chest cold

I have a chest cold and running a fever and only 8 days until my surgery. I am worried that I will have to post pone. I can't get into the doctor until Monday and pre-op is Tuesday. Anyone have a suggestion of a good mediciane for a chest cold? I really want to be able to go through with the surgery.

The good news is that you still have some time on your side to get over it. The bad news is with it being your last week home you are going to probably try and run yourself ragged with all the to do stuff. Try and rest, forget about the house etc. Drink lots of water with fresh lemon (helps to break up and flush out mucous) green tea (immune system booster and hot fluids help break mucous up too). Rest rest rest!! Best wishes...

Call your dr and ask what to do. Even if you can't see him/her until Monday, hopefully he/she can give you some help now. I agree with getting as much rest as possible and drinking plenty of liquids.

Best wishes, I hope that all works out well for you

You have TIME to get better. REST!!!!! I am all for the water!!! I am a big believer in Mucinex D to break things up and get them out. Call you doctor and see if you can take that. If you really take it easy, you will be fine in that number of days. REST!!!!!!!!! Don't worry about anything that has to be done. I am 3 weeks post op from a TAH w/BSO and I can honestly say that I didn't care about at thing those first 2 weeks. By week 3 you can ask someone to help you tie up the lose ends you had to leave because you were fighting a chest cold. Take care!

I'm not sure if Cold-eeze Lozenges or Zi-Cam gel would work with what you've got, but they are both miraculous for shortening the duration and severity of colds. The lozenges may cause a little queasiness, so take them with food. You may have more than a cold if you're running a fever, but I think both these products are safe to try. No, I don't own any stock in either of them, but I wish I did! Your body heals about 7 times faster when you're asleep, so do lots of that. Please do postpone it if you're not well, though. You need your strength to heal and you don't want to be coughing or sneezing after the surgery.
