Hysterectomy for Endometriosis

I'm about to have a hyst for my endometriosis next month and am a little nervous. Theya re going to be removing my ovaries, uteris, and cervix, plus and endometriosis they find. There is endo on my bowels and liver so they might have to do resection also. I have qusite a few questions for you:

1) What do I need to bring to the hospital?
2) How long will my recovery take?
3) How long should I expect to have to have someone take care of my little kids, ages 20 months and 5 years?
4) What will I need after the surgery at home? Like night gown and such?
5) Any suggestions to make this recovery time easier?
6) When can I expect to have sex again?
7) Will orgasims feel the same? Can I still have them?

If you can't guess I'm just a little nervous and very unprepared for this. I'm only 25, but I have severe stage 4 endo and this is my last chance and relieving my pain. Thank you all so much!!!!

Hysterectomy for Endometriosis

I had my hysterectomy for endo also - and I'm hoping and praying that it doesn't come back. This was my last resort.

I would most definetely have something very loose and very comforable to wear home from the hospital. I had sweats, and they were even difficult. I also had sneakers, which were impossible to put on and tie. My hubby helped with that. As for recovery - I'm 5 weeks post-op and feeling much better, but still have some bad days. I thought for the first week that I would never get better, but after a couple of weeks I could tell I was improving. I'm still not completely back to myself. I don't know if you will have back pain, but my back pain was horrible. As for taking care of your kids - you shouldn't lift anything for several weeks. I would say for the first week you may not be able to do anything for them. I would have comfy, slouchy clothes at home for after.

The best way to recover is to rest, rest, rest. Pamper yourself, this is major surgery! As for the sex and orgasm, I've not got that far yet.

Good luck!

Hysterectomy for Endometriosis

I recommend you buy the book from the hystersister store. I bought the book and journal combo pack and it really informed me about all the particulars and added advice. It was nice to jot down my progress and health concerns in the journal. You could simply use a notebook to take notes as well. But the book was filled with good information.

I have a 7 and 4 year old. I had my husband stay home for the first 6 days and then after that I had mom and sisters come and help daily for about another week or so. I felt more comfortable that way in case I was taking any medication or just wanted to nap during the day. I was pretty tired for the first two weeks or so.

My orgasms didn't change much. At first, it felt a little different but and does at times but overall the same. But some say that they feel them more in their uterus which I don't believe that I did. Most ladies here have said that their doctors say to wait until six weeks to put anything in the vagina and/or wait for the six week check. Mine actually said I could have at about 4 weeks but I chose to wait for my own comfort level based on what I read here. Above all, listen to your doctor!

Thank you so much! What was the name of the book you mentioned? I'll take a look and see if I can find it though, but just in case.
