Upcoming hysterectomy 3/30: Did you feel different when you woke up? Hormone patch?

Im having a open supracervical abdominal hysterectomy and BSO. Did you feel different when you woke up? (Besides the usual pain, I mean hormone wise??) or did they stick a hormone patch on you? Will you be doing HRT? I am hoping to feel great and when the swelling from surgery goes down im looking forward to not looking 5 months pregnant anymore!!

Actually I woke up feeling the same and so far no changes. I did not get the patch and for now I'm not doing hrt. I'm just gonna try to deal with the symptoms and take supplements and eat foods with bone strengthening qualities. Also to my surprise I didn't have the swelly belly and you may not either!

I didn't feel any different, either, and I didn't do HRT. Later on, I did experience mild hot flashes and times of being overly-emotional, but it truly wasn't bad, all things considered. You'll do great, sister!

I woke up very hot. Some joked that it was hormones, but it only lasted 24 hours. I think it was a reaction to the surgery.

I am fine now. My doctor won't talk to me about taking hormones until my 6 week check up.

I get hot flashes at night. HRT will be discussed at my 6 week consultation.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 3/30: Did you feel different when you woke up? Hormone patch?

My surgeon took everything and the only way that I felt different after surgery was the level of pain. I can't do HRT so no patch. I know that some doctors will prescribe a patch that is placed on after surgery and others wait. This is something that you will want to discuss with your doctor.

Some people have trouble with Swelly Belly and others don't. It is the body's reaction to the trauma from surgery and may happen more when you do too much. I had some trouble after I went back to work and off and on for several months.

on your surgery. We will see you on the other side.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 3/30: Did you feel different when you woke up? Hormone patch?

When I woke up I was drowsy...but felt relief more than
Anything else that the surgery was over. I had already been through meno years before, so I didn't think about HRT at that time. But it was interesting and I even posted about it on the site...I occasionally had brief hot flashes. I guess my ovaries were still producing some estrogen, so when they were removed, my hormones were a bit out of whack. But it was very bearable and short lasting. It was well worth it for me to be a bit uncomfortable since I was thrilled my alien finroids were removed!

When you wake up from surgery, the nurses will help keep you comfortable - but speak up if you do need anything.

We are all here to wish you the best!
